duḥkhādayaḥ — sorrows and the rest; jātu — now and then; svīyatayā — as one's own; hṛdi — in the heart; bhāntaḥ sphuranto’pi — even while showing themselves and flaring up.
Take sorrow and the other painful feelings. Now and then they really do flare up in the heart, and they even show up wearing the face of one's own grief.
The lakṣaṇa of this pair (2.5.104-105): in the perfected devotee even duḥkha-type feelings, and even sukha felt as another's, turn into relish rather than pain or ordinary pleasure.

And yet all they produce is the savoring of a wonder-struck, full-grown bliss. Nothing else. The pain-feeling arrives, but what it yields is relish.

How does a sorrow feed bliss? Jīva explains: the sorrow first quiets down, and then joys break out in its place. The listener knows this — from the outcome, or from the storyteller — even when he has only heard the story in brief. So even as the painful episode is being heard, a private tracking-ahead to the happy resolution is already running inside. Take Sītā's abduction: you feel the grief, yet you know the reunion is coming, and that inner foreknowledge sweetens it. That, says Jīva, is the intended sense.

tat na cet — if it were not so; 'na vinā vipralambhena sambhogaḥ puṣṭim aśnute' iti — the dictum 'union gains no fullness without separation'; na upapadyate — would not stand.
And this must be so, argues Jīva. Otherwise the well-known rule would collapse: union never ripens to its full richness except through separation. The pain of separation is precisely what feeds the fullness of reunion.
Why cited: Adduced to prove that the sorrow is not wasted pain: the maxim that reunion ripens only through prior separation shows the painful feeling is what nourishes the resulting bliss.

Now a second reading is introduced: this state, it says, is an occasional one — not the standing rule, but something that arises now and then — and that is what the two 'duḥkhādayaḥ' verses describe.
The 'jātu' ('now and then') of the mūla is read as marking occasionality here.

The little word 'even' does extra work: it lets the sorrows appear not only as one's own but also as another's. Either way, all they yield is the wonder-struck savoring of full bliss — and never any actual pain.

Apply it, says Viśvanātha: in the hearts of the śānta-rasa devotees seated in Brahmā's assembly up in Satyaloka, sorrows over suffering worldly people do flare up — and still all they bring to light is full-grown bliss.

Same pattern with Prahlāda. His compassion was simply the selfless wish to end others' suffering. Pained by the pain of worldly souls, he stood before the Lord and asked his boon precisely for their deliverance — his sorrow over them turning straight into loving service.

saptama-skandhe — in the Seventh Canto; 'na etān vihāya kṛpaṇān' ity-ādi — 'not abandoning these wretched ones', etc.; tad uktaṁ — this is said.
And the Seventh Canto records his very words: 'I will not abandon these poor, wretched souls…' — the incipit standing for the whole verse.
Why cited: Cited as scriptural proof of Prahlāda's compassionate sorrow: he refuses liberation for himself rather than leave the suffering behind, so his 'duḥkha' over them is itself devotion, not pain.

Why cited: Cited as another scriptural instance of the great devotee's all-embracing compassion — sorrow for the world voiced as a blessing, confirming that such 'sorrow' is bliss-filled.

ata eva — therefore; eṣāṁ bhaktānāṁ hṛdi sphuranto’pi duḥkhādayaḥ — the sorrows flaring up in these devotees' hearts; paramānanda-svarūpā eva — are supreme bliss by nature; na tu duḥkha-sākṣāt-kāra-viṣayā — not an object of felt pain.
So the conclusion, says Viśvanātha: the sorrows that flare up in the hearts of such devotees are, in their very nature, supreme bliss. They are never actually experienced as pain.

Why can't it be real pain? Because it is a settled principle that only sin — whether long past or freshly done — is what produces the actual experience of suffering. These devotees have none, so real pain has no foothold in them.

Merely remembering such great souls instantly purifies a person's very house — so what need even be said of seeing them, touching them, washing their feet, seating them, and the like?
Why cited: Scriptural proof that these devotees are utterly sinless — their mere remembrance purifies others — so the sorrow flaring in their hearts cannot be pain born of sin.

Now Viśvanātha voices the devotee's own heart, turning to the joys: 'Let whatever come to me come — let pain even lodge in me forever. What matters is only this: that my Lord, through my service, be always happy.' The devotee's happiness rests entirely in the Lord's — joy owned by another.
This inner resolve is the 'etādṛśa-bhāvanā' picked up in the next segment: it is the frame in which the beloved's joy, though 'another's', becomes the devotee's own supreme bliss.
