dhig dīrghe nayane mamāstu mathurā yābhyāṁ na sā prekṣyate
dhig dīrghe nayane mama astufie on these two long eyes of mine! dhik + nominative of the thing cursed; astu = 'let there be [shame] on'मेरी इन दोनों लम्बी आँखों को धिक्कार हो
mathurā yābhyāṁ na sā prekṣyateby which two [eyes] that Mathurā is not being seen yābhyām = instrumental relative pointing back to nayane; sā picks up Mathurāजिन आँखों से वह मथुरा नहीं देखी जाती
sā mathurā yābhyāṁ na prekṣyate, [te] mama dīrghe nayane dhik astu — fie on my two long eyes, by which that Mathurā goes unseen.
A curse on these two long eyes of mine! They never get to see Mathurā. The speaker is disgusted with his own eyes for having missed the sacred city.
An udāharaṇa of śābalya — the variegated rapid succession of vyabhicāri (transient) emotions, each one overpowering the one before. Across the four pādas of 2.4.246 seven of them arise in a chain: nirveda, garva, śaṅkā, dhṛti, viṣāda, mati, autsukya (named in L5). This first pāda voices nirveda, self-disgust.

vidyā iyaṁ mama kiṅkarī-kṛta-nṛpāthis learning of mine — which has made kings into its servants kiṅkarī-kṛta-nṛpā = bahuvrīhi describing vidyā: 'having kings-turned-servants'मेरी यह विद्या, जिसने राजाओं को अपना दास बना लिया है
kālas tu sarvaṅkaraḥbut Time, for its part, does everything / sweeps all away tu turns from the boast to the check; Viśvanātha reads sarvaṅkaraḥ as sarvaṅkaṣaḥ, 'all-destroying'परन्तु काल तो सब कुछ कर डालनेवाला है
iyaṁ mama vidyā kiṅkarī-kṛta-nṛpā [asti]; kālas tu sarvaṅkaraḥ — my learning has made kings its servants; but Time undoes everything.
This learning of mine has bent kings into servants. That is the boast. But then: yet Time destroys all. Two moods collide inside one line — pride, then the doubt that undercuts it.
The verse form is sarvaṅkaraḥ ('doing everything'); Viśvanātha glosses it as sarvaṅkaṣaḥ, 'grinding all down' (s4). The first half of the pāda carries garva (pride), the tu-clause turns to śaṅkā (apprehension).

lakṣmī-keli-gṛhaṁ gṛhaṁ mama hahā nityaṁ tanuḥ kṣīyate
lakṣmī-keli-gṛhaṁ gṛhaṁ mamamy house is the pleasure-house of Lakṣmī (of all wealth) predicative: gṛham [is] the keli-gṛhamमेरा घर लक्ष्मी का क्रीड़ा-भवन है
hahā nityaṁ tanuḥ kṣīyatealas! day by day the body wastes awayहाय!
mama gṛhaṁ lakṣmī-keli-gṛham [asti]; hahā, nityaṁ tanuḥ kṣīyate — my home is Lakṣmī's own playhouse; alas, the body dwindles daily.
My house is where the goddess of wealth comes to play. That is contentment. Then: alas, the body wastes a little more each day. Satisfaction gives way to despair.
First half voices dhṛti (settled contentment in one's wealth), the 'hahā' half turns to viṣāda (despair).

sadmani eva hariṁ bhajeya; [kintu] hṛdayaṁ vṛndāṭavī karṣati — I'll just worship Hari at home; but Vṛndāvana tugs my heart.
Fine, I will worship Hari right here at home. That is the resolve. But the Vṛndā forest keeps pulling my heart toward it. The settled decision dissolves into longing.
First half voices mati (a fixed resolve), the second half turns to autsukya (eager longing).

Rūpa names what the verse illustrated: the śābalya — the variegated, quick-changing weave — of seven vyabhicāri-bhāvas: nirveda, garva, śaṅkā, dhṛti, viṣāda, mati, and autsukya. Each rose only to be pushed aside by the next.
śābalya (from śabala, 'motley, dappled') is the technical name for several transient emotions crowding one another in rapid succession. The source spelling śāalyam drops the b of śābalyam.

'madhurā mathurā proktā' iti dvi-rūpa-koṣaḥ — a lexicon that lists the word in two forms says 'madhurā [and] mathurā are given [as one].'
Viśvanātha opens by citing a dictionary: the word appears in two forms, madhurā and mathurā. So 'Mathurā' in the verse also carries the sense of 'the sweet one' — the name and the sweetness are one word.
Why cited: Cited to license the śleṣa: the koṣa lists madhurā and mathurā as two forms of one word, so the city-name Mathurā simultaneously means 'sweet'.

Viśvanātha names the mood of the first line: cursing the very eyes that failed to see Mathurā is nirveda, self-disgust.

yayā nṛpā kiṅkarī-kṛtā, evambhūtā vidyā mayi vartate — iti nirveda-upamardako garvaḥ; the learning that turns kings into servants lives in me — that is pride, and it drives out the earlier self-disgust.
Now the mood flips. 'Such learning — the kind that makes kings my servants — lives in me.' That is garva, pride. Viśvanātha notes it is nirveda-upamardaka: the pride overpowers and displaces the self-disgust of the line before.

Then apprehension: 'all-crushing Time is the real victor — what is my learning worth against it?' Viśvanātha reads the verse's sarvaṅkaraḥ as sarvaṅkaṣaḥ, 'all-destroying.' This śaṅkā overpowers the pride of the moment before.

Last, autsukya, eager longing: 'the Vṛndā forest keeps pulling my heart away.' It overpowers the resolve to stay home. Viśvanātha thus traces the whole chain — nirveda, garva, śaṅkā, dhṛti, viṣāda, mati, autsukya — each one toppling the one before, which is exactly the śābalya Rūpa named in L5.
