dhig janma nas trivṛd-vidyāṁ dhig vrataṁ dhig bahujñatām |
dhik janma naḥto hell with our birthधिक्कार है हमारे जन्म को
trivṛt-vidyām[and] with our threefold Vedic learning trivṛt = the three Vedas; also carries dhik(और धिक्कार) तीनों वेदों की विद्या को
dhik vratamto hell with our vowsधिक्कार है (ब्रह्मचर्यादि) व्रत को
dhik bahu-jñatāmto hell with our vast learningधिक्कार है हमारी बहुज्ञता को (कि हम बहुत जानते हैं)
dhik naḥ janma — to hell with our birth; dhik trivṛt-vidyām — with our threefold Vedic learning; dhik vratam — with our vows; dhik bahu-jñatām — with our wide learning.
The brāhmaṇas turn on themselves. Curse our birth, they cry, curse our knowledge of the three Vedas, curse our vows, curse all our learning. Each thing they were once proud of they now spit on.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of nirveda, 'self-disgust, despondency' — the transient emotion (vyabhicārī-bhāva) opening the caturtha-laharī of the Dakṣiṇa-vibhāga (2.4). Quoted from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.23.40; the yajñic brāhmaṇas, who had refused Kṛṣṇa food, speak in remorse.

dhik kulaṁ dhik kriyā-dīkṣāṁ vimukhā ye tv adhokṣaje ||
dhik kulamto hell with our family lineधिक्कार है (हमारे) कुल को
dhik kriyā-dīkṣāmto hell with our initiation into ritual actsधिक्कार है यज्ञादि क्रिया की दीक्षा को
vimukhāḥ ye tu adhokṣajewe who, after all, turned our backs on Adhokṣaja adhokṣaja = the Lord beyond the reach of the senses; tu = 'and yet / after all'क्योंकि हम वे हैं जो, इतना सब होने पर भी, अधोक्षज (इन्द्रियातीत भगवान्) से विमुख हैं
dhik kulam — to hell with our family; dhik kriyā-dīkṣām — with our initiation into rites; ye tu adhokṣaje vimukhāḥ — we who for all that turned away from Adhokṣaja.
Curse our lineage, they go on, curse our ritual initiation — for we, with all of it, turned our faces from Kṛṣṇa, the Lord beyond the senses. That aversion is what makes every gift a disgrace, and self-loathing is the mood the verse displays.
L3definition
atra svatantro nirvedaḥ |
atrahere [in this verse]यहाँ (इस उदाहरण में)
svatantraḥ nirvedaḥthe nirveda is independent svatantra = not triggered by another bhāva; standing on its ownस्वतन्त्र निर्वेद है (जो किसी अन्य भाव से नहीं, अपने-आप खड़ा है)
atra — in this example; svatantraḥ nirvedaḥ — the despondency is of the independent (svatantra) kind.
Rūpa tags the instance. The nirveda here is svatantra — it stands on its own, not stirred up by some prior emotion. The self-disgust arises directly from the brāhmaṇas' own reflection, not as an offshoot of another mood.

dhik iti — [the verse] that opens with the word 'dhik'.

trivṛt śaukraṁ sāvitraṁ daikṣyam iti triguṇitaṁ janma no’smākaṁ yat tat dhik |
śaukram sāvitram daikṣyam itithe birth from seed, the birth by Gāyatrī, the birth by dīkṣā the three 'births' of a brāhmaṇa — physical, upanayana, and sacrificial initiationशौक्र (शुक्र से शारीरिक जन्म), सावित्र (उपनयन-संस्कार) और दैक्ष्य (यज्ञ-दीक्षा) — ये तीन जन्म
triguṇitam janmaso, birth counted three times overइस प्रकार तिगुना हुआ जन्म
naḥ asmākam yat tat dhikthat birth of ours — to hell with it naḥ glossed by the plainer asmākam, 'our'हमारा जो वह (जन्म) है, उसको धिक्कार ('नः' का अर्थ ही 'अस्माकम्', हमारा)
trivṛt — threefold, namely; śaukram sāvitram daikṣyam iti — the seminal birth, the Sāvitrī (Gāyatrī) birth, and the initiatory birth; triguṇitam janma — birth thrice over; naḥ yat tat dhik — that birth of ours, curse it.
Viśvanātha reads 'trivṛt' with 'janma', not with 'vidyā'. A brāhmaṇa is born three times over, he explains: once from his parents' seed (śaukra), once when invested with the Gāyatrī at upanayana (sāvitra), and once through sacrificial initiation (daikṣya). It is this triple birth of theirs that they now curse.

vrataṁ brahmacaryaṁ, tridhā nitya-naimittikādi karmāṇi |
vratam brahmacaryam'vow' means the celibate student's disciplineव्रत अर्थात् ब्रह्मचर्य
tridhā nitya-naimittika-ādi karmāṇiand the rites are of three kinds — obligatory, occasional, and the rest unpacks kriyā of kriyā-dīkṣā in L2; ādi points to the third, kāmya (desire-prompted) ritesतीन प्रकार के कर्म — नित्य, नैमित्तिक और आदि (अर्थात् काम्य)
vratam brahmacaryam — the 'vow' is brahmacarya; tridhā nitya-naimittika-ādi karmāṇi — the acts [of kriyā-dīkṣā] are threefold: daily, occasional, and so on.
The 'vow' cursed in the verse, Viśvanātha says, is brahmacarya, the celibate student's discipline. And the 'rites' of their initiation come in three sorts — the daily obligatory ones (nitya), the occasional ones (naimittika), and the rest, meaning the desire-prompted ones (kāmya).

ye vayam adhokṣaje śrī-kṛṣṇe tu vimukhā eva ||
adhokṣaje śrī-kṛṣṇetoward Adhokṣaja, that is, Śrī Kṛṣṇa adhokṣaja glossed as Kṛṣṇa; locative of the one turned away fromअधोक्षज अर्थात् श्रीकृष्ण के प्रति (सप्तमी — जिससे मुख फेरा गया)
tu vimukhāḥ evawere, for all that, simply averse tu concessive; eva underscores the bare fact of the aversionतो भी विमुख ही (हैं) — 'तु' रियायत का, 'एव' विमुखता के नंगे तथ्य पर ज़ोर देता है
ye vayam — we who; adhokṣaje śrī-kṛṣṇe — toward Adhokṣaja, Śrī Kṛṣṇa; tu vimukhāḥ eva — were nonetheless nothing but averse.
Viśvanātha names Adhokṣaja plainly as Śrī Kṛṣṇa. 'We who' — with all that birth, learning, and ritual — 'were, for all of it, simply turned away from him.' The whole self-curse hangs on that one aversion, and 'eva' drives it home: averse, and nothing better.
