Fickleness (cāpala) is a lightness or flightiness of mind. It arises because of attachment, aversion, and feelings of that kind. When these passions make the mind unsteady, that unsteadiness is what we call cāpala.
The lakṣaṇa (defining statement) of cāpala, the 30th of the vyabhicāri-bhāvas being enumerated in this laharī.
