L1definition
dhṛtiḥ syāt pūrṇatā jñāna-duḥkhābhāvottamāptibhiḥ |
syātis said to beहोती है (लक्षण-वाक्य का 'है')
jñāna-duḥkhābhāva-uttama-āptibhiḥbrought about by knowledge, by the absence of suffering, and by attaining the highest instrumental plural of means — three causes named together in one compoundइन तीन के द्वारा — ज्ञान से, दुःख के अभाव से, और उत्तम की प्राप्ति से (तृतीया बहुवचन, तीनों कारण एक ही समास में)
dhṛtiḥ pūrṇatā syāt — dhṛti is a fullness of mind; jñāna-duḥkhābhāva-uttamāptibhiḥ — [a fullness] produced by knowledge, by the absence of suffering, and by attaining the highest.
Here Rūpa defines dhṛti, the twenty-fourth of the transient emotions. Dhṛti is a fullness or settledness of the mind. Three things bring it on: knowledge, the absence of any suffering, and reaching the highest goal. When those are present, the mind rests full and untroubled.
The lakṣaṇa (definition) of dhṛti, 'steadiness / contentment,' the 24th vyabhicārī-bhāva catalogued in the caturtha-laharī of the Dakṣiṇa-vibhāga (2.4). The lead-in reads 'atha (24) dhṛtiḥ.'
L2definition
aprāptātīta-naṣṭārthān abhisaṁśocanādi-kṛt ||
aprāpta-atīta-naṣṭa-arthānover things not yet gained, gone by, or lost accusative objects of the grieving; three kinds — the unattained, the past, the destroyedउन वस्तुओं को (जिनके लिए शोक होता, कर्म का कर्म) — तीन प्रकार की : जो मिली ही नहीं, जो बीत गई, और जो नष्ट हो गई (द्वितीया)
abhisaṁśocana-ādi-kṛt[dhṛti is] what stops the grieving and the like -kṛt reads literally 'doing'; with dhṛti (fullness) the understood force is that one does NOT grieveउनका शोक आदि करने वाली — किन्तु धृति (पूर्णता) होने से यहाँ अभिप्राय यह है कि वह शोक नहीं करती
aprāpta-atīta-naṣṭa-arthān — regarding objects unattained, past, or lost; abhisaṁśocana-ādi-kṛt — [dhṛti is] that which keeps one from grieving and the rest.
The second line adds the mark of dhṛti. A person in dhṛti does not grieve over things — whether things never obtained, things now past, or things that have been destroyed. The compound literally says 'doing grieving,' but since dhṛti is fullness of mind, the sense carried is the opposite: it is what holds off lamentation and its kin.
The compound abhisaṁśocanādi-kṛt is read here with an understood negation: dhṛti, being pūrṇatā (fullness), is precisely the state in which one does not lament what is unattained, gone, or lost.

jñānena bhagavad-anubhavenaby knowledge — that is, by direct experience of Bhagavān instrumental restated appositionally: jñāna is glossed as bhagavad-anubhavaज्ञान से — अर्थात् भगवान् के अनुभव से (यहाँ 'ज्ञान' को भगवद्-अनुभव कहकर समझाया)
tathā bhagavat-sambandhena yaḥ duḥkhābhāvaḥ tenaand by the absence of suffering that comes from one's link with Bhagavān instrumental tena resuming duḥkhābhāva — the second cause of L1तथा भगवान् के सम्बन्ध से जो दुःख का अभाव होता है, उससे (यह दूसरा कारण, तृतीया 'तेन')
tathā uttamasya bhagavat-sambandhitayā parama-puruṣārthasya premṇaḥ prāptyā caand by attaining 'the highest' — namely prema, the supreme goal of life, because it is what relates one to Bhagavān uttama of L1 unpacked as premṇaḥ; instrumental prāptyā = the third cause, 'by attaining'तथा उत्तम की — जो भगवान् से सम्बन्ध होने के कारण परम पुरुषार्थ है, उस प्रेम की प्राप्ति से (यह तीसरा कारण, तृतीया 'प्राप्त्या')
pūrṇatā manasaḥ acāñcalyamthe 'fullness' is the mind's not-wavering pūrṇatā of L1 glossed as acāñcalya — steadinessपूर्णता — अर्थात् मन की अचंचलता, स्थिरता
sā dhṛtiḥ iti arthaḥthat is what dhṛti meansवही धृति है — यह अर्थ है
jñānena bhagavad-anubhavena — by knowledge, i.e. experience of Bhagavān; tathā bhagavat-sambandhena yaḥ duḥkhābhāvaḥ tena — and by the absence of suffering born of one's connection with Bhagavān; tathā uttamasya premṇaḥ parama-puruṣārthasya bhagavat-sambandhitayā prāptyā ca — and by attaining prema, the supreme goal, since it relates one to Bhagavān; pūrṇatā manasaḥ acāñcalyam — the resulting fullness is steadiness of mind; sā dhṛtiḥ iti arthaḥ — that is the meaning of dhṛti.
Jīva reads the verse's three causes devotionally. The 'knowledge' means direct experience of Bhagavān. The 'absence of suffering' is the freedom that comes from being connected to Bhagavān. And the 'highest' that one attains is prema, the supreme goal of life, precisely because prema is what binds one to Bhagavān. When these produce fullness of mind, that fullness is really the mind's steadiness, its not-wavering. That steadiness, says Jīva, is dhṛti.
