Here is a scene. Govinda is with his cowherd friends, the group led by Subala.

An udāharaṇa illustrating gaurava, 'reverential awe / bashful deference before a superior' — a vyabhicāri-bhāva of the caturtha-laharī (2.4). The servant hides his smile out of awe of Kṛṣṇa. Set up by the lead-in gauraveṇa, yathā.

Viśvanātha lays out the sentence plainly. When Kṛṣṇa is joking with Subala and the other friends, a servant — Viśvanātha names him Patrī — forces down his smile and covers it. He glosses the poetic saṁvavāra with the everyday ācchādayāmāsa, 'he covered it up'.
जब श्रीकृष्ण सुबल आदि सखाओं के साथ हँसी-परिहास रच रहे थे, तब पत्री नामक दास ने प्रयत्नपूर्वक अपनी मुस्कान को ढक लिया — अर्थात् आच्छादित कर दिया। विश्वनाथ 'सति' जोड़कर सप्तमी को स्पष्ट करते हैं और अनाम कर्ता का नाम 'पत्री' बताते हैं।
