Jīva glosses two words of the verse. 'Śavala' means soiled with dirt. And a 'devala' is a man who lives off deity-worship.

Viśvanātha reads 'te' as 'your.' The friends — Subala and the others — are worn down with grief by separation from you. They have cast off their ornaments. Settling there in Vraja they stay put; the real sense, he says, is that they roll about on the ground.

tatra dṛṣṭāntaḥ—pāṣaṇḍa iti |
pāṣaṇḍa itinamely, the passage cited by the catchword 'pāṣaṇḍa' pratīka — pointing to the simile-clause of the verse'पाषण्ड' इत्यादि — यह प्रतीक श्लोक के उपमा-वाक्य की ओर संकेत करता है
tatra — here; dṛṣṭāntaḥ — the analogy is; pāṣaṇḍa iti — [the line beginning] 'pāṣaṇḍa'.
Viśvanātha now points to the analogy in the verse, naming it by its catchword 'pāṣaṇḍa.'
The printed simile-quarter reads khala-devala; 'pāṣaṇḍa' as the catchword likely reflects the reading Viśvanātha had before him for the same clause, which s3 goes on to explain as 'khala-devala-brāhmaṇa.'

Viśvanātha spells out the analogy. In the house of a notorious, corrupt deity-priest the deity-images just stand there, never washed or cared for. 'Just so' with the friends: the neglected images stand for the grief-worn friends, and the priest's neglect — leaving them filthy and unadorned — matches the friends' own soiled clothes and cast-off ornaments in separation. The point of comparison is beauty left to go to ruin through neglect; it reaches only that far, not to any wickedness in the friends themselves.
