tathā na te mādhava tāvakāḥ kvacid
tathāin like manner — but here (per Jīva) marking a contrast with what came before: 'as for that…' adverb; Jīva reads it contrastively (pūrvārtha-virodhe), not as a plain 'thus'उसी प्रकार (यहाँ जीव इसे पूर्व कथन के विरोध में लेते हैं, केवल 'इस तरह' नहीं)
na … kvacidnever, not in any case na pairs with kvacid ('ever') → 'never'; verb bhraśyanti waits in L2'न' और 'kvacid' मिलकर — कभी भी नहीं; क्रिया bhraśyanti अगली पंक्ति में आती है
tethey — namely your own people subject, resumed by tāvakāḥवे (जिनका निर्देश आगे tāvakāḥ से होता है)
mādhavaO Mādhava (Kṛṣṇa, addressed)हे माधव! (कृष्ण को सम्बोधन)
tāvakāḥthose who are yours — your own devoteesतेरे जन (जो तुझे आश्रय मानते हैं)
he mādhava — O Mādhava; te tāvakāḥ — they, your own people; kvacid na (bhraśyanti) — never (fall).
mādhava — हे माधव; te tāvakāḥ — वे तेरे जन; tathā — उसी प्रकार; kvacid na — कभी भी नहीं (मार्ग से भ्रष्ट होते)
O Mādhava, your own people never, in any circumstance, fall away. The verb 'fall' completes in the next line.
हे माधव! तेरे जन कभी भी मार्ग से नहीं गिरते। 'उसी प्रकार' यहाँ पूर्व की बात के विरोध में कहा गया है। क्रिया अगली पंक्ति में आती है।
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse), quoted from the tenth canto, BhP 10.2.33. The lead-in names its point — sarvottama-āśraya, Kṛṣṇa as the supreme shelter of all: the bhāva shown is the fearless steadiness (dhṛti / nirbhayatā) of those who take that shelter.
यह एक उदाहरण-श्लोक है, जो दशम स्कन्ध से उद्धृत है (भागवत 10.2.33)। प्रस्तावना इसका तात्पर्य बताती है — सर्वोत्तम-आश्रय, अर्थात् कृष्ण सबके परम आश्रय हैं; यहाँ दिखाया गया भाव है, उस आश्रय को ग्रहण करने वालों की निर्भय धृति (नित्य स्थिरता, निर्भयता)।

bhraśyanti mārgāt tvayi baddha-sauhṛdāḥ
bhraśyantithey fall away / slip off — governed by the 'never' of L1, so: never slipगिरते हैं, भ्रष्ट होते हैं (पिछली पंक्ति के 'न … कभी' के साथ — कभी नहीं गिरते)
mārgātfrom the path ablative of the point departed from — 'off the path'मार्ग से (पंचमी — जहाँ से गिरने की बात है, उस मार्ग से)
tvayion you — with you as the object locative fixed by baddha-sauhṛda (friendship bound 'on/to' you)तुझमें (सप्तमी, baddha-sauhṛda से नियत — तुझसे बँधी मित्रता)
baddha-sauhṛdāḥhaving bound fast their affection — because their friendship is tied to you bahuvrīhi describing tāvakāḥ; the reason they never slipजिनकी मित्रता तुझसे दृढ़ बँधी है (बहुव्रीहि, tāvakāḥ का विशेषण; यही कारण कि वे कभी नहीं फिसलते)
tvayi baddha-sauhṛdāḥ — with affection bound fast to you; mārgāt na bhraśyanti — they never fall off the path.
tvayi baddha-sauhṛdāḥ — तुझसे दृढ़ मित्रता में बँधे हुए वे; mārgāt na bhraśyanti — मार्ग से नहीं गिरते
Because their love is bound tight to you, they never slip off the path. Their steadiness comes from that bond.
जिनकी मित्रता तुझसे दृढ़ बँधी है, वे मार्ग से नहीं गिरते। यही बन्धी हुई मैत्री उनके न फिसलने का कारण है।

tvayā abhiguptāḥ — तेरे द्वारा रक्षित; nirbhayāḥ — निर्भय होकर; vicaranti — विचरते हैं
Shielded by you, they roam about with no fear at all.

vināyakānīkapa-mūrdhasu prabho ||
vināyaka-anīkapa-mūrdhasuupon the very heads of the commanders of the armies of Vināyakas (obstacle-makers) locative 'where they roam'; Viśvanātha unpacks vināyaka-anīkapa as 'the generals of the army that is obstacles'विघ्नरूपी सेना के नायकों के सिरों पर (सप्तमी — जहाँ वे विचरते हैं; विश्वनाथ vināyaka-anīkapa को 'विघ्नों की सेना का सेनापति' बताते हैं)
prabhoO Lord (Kṛṣṇa, addressed)हे प्रभो! (कृष्ण को सम्बोधन)
he prabho — O Lord; vināyaka-anīkapa-mūrdhasu — on the heads of the obstacle-army's captains; vicaranti — they roam (from L3).
prabho — हे प्रभो; vināyaka-anīkapa-mūrdhasu — विघ्नरूपी सेना के अधिपतियों के सिरों पर (विचरते हैं)
They walk fearless right on the heads of the captains who lead the armies of obstacle-makers, O Lord. The obstacles are trampled underfoot.
हे प्रभो! वे विघ्नरूपी सेना के अधिपतियों के सिरों पर ही निर्भय विचरते हैं।
vināyaka: 'obstacle-lord' (in the wider tradition, Gaṇeśa; here in the plural, the class of obstacle-making powers). Viśvanātha glosses vināyaka-anīkapa as vighna-rūpa-senā-pālaka — the general of the army that consists of obstacles.
vināyaka का अर्थ है 'विघ्नों का स्वामी' (व्यापक परम्परा में गणेश; यहाँ बहुवचन में विघ्न उत्पन्न करने वाली शक्तियों का वर्ग)। विश्वनाथ vināyaka-anīkapa की व्याख्या vighna-rūpa-senā-pālaka के रूप में करते हैं — विघ्नों से बनी सेना का सेनापति।

tatheti pūrvārtha-virodhe yathā tvaṁ mūrkhas tathāhaṁ netivat—yad vā |
tathā itithe word 'tathā' [in the verse] — iti flags the word being glossed'तथा' यह शब्द (iti उस शब्द को इंगित करता है जिसकी व्याख्या हो रही है)
pūrvārtha-virodheis used to mark a contrast with the preceding sense locative of the sense in which the word is taken: 'in the meaning of opposition to the earlier point'पूर्व कथन के विरोध के अर्थ में (सप्तमी — जिस अर्थ में शब्द लिया गया है)
yathā tvaṁ mūrkhas tathā ahaṁ na iti-vatjust like the saying 'as you are a fool, so am I NOT' — where 'so' flags a difference, not a likeness iti-vat = 'as in the example…'; a stock phrase where tathā carries a contrast'जैसे तू मूर्ख है वैसे मैं नहीं' — इस उदाहरण की तरह (iti-vat = 'जैसे इस दृष्टान्त में'; जहाँ 'तथा' विरोध का भाव लिए है)
yad vāor else — [a second reading is opened here] yad vā opens an alternative that is left suspended, not resolvedअथवा (yad vā से एक दूसरा विकल्प खुलता है, जो यहाँ अनसुलझा छोड़ दिया गया है)
tathā iti — the word 'tathā'; pūrvārtha-virodhe — is in the sense of contrast with the prior portion; yathā tvaṁ mūrkhas tathāhaṁ na iti-vat — as in 'as you are a fool, so am I not'; yad vā — or else…
tathā iti — 'तथा' शब्द; pūrvārtha-virodhe — पूर्व अर्थ के विरोध में; yathā tvaṁ mūrkhas tathā ahaṁ na iti-vat — 'जैसे तू मूर्ख वैसे मैं नहीं' इस उदाहरण की तरह; yad vā — अथवा
Jīva first parses the opening 'tathā'. He says it marks a contrast with what came before — not 'thus/likewise' but 'as against that'. Compare the everyday phrase 'as you are a fool, so am I NOT': the 'so' there flags a difference. Then he says 'or else' and opens a second reading.
जीव कहते हैं — 'तथा' शब्द यहाँ पूर्व कथन के विरोध के अर्थ में है। जैसे 'जैसे तू मूर्ख है वैसे मैं नहीं' में 'तथा' विरोध दिखाता है, वैसे ही यहाँ। फिर 'अथवा' कहकर एक दूसरा विकल्प आरम्भ करते हैं।
The trailing yad vā opens an alternative interpretation that this segment does not state — left suspended.
अन्त में आया 'यद वा' एक दूसरी व्याख्या खोलता है, जिसे यह अंश कहता नहीं — वह अनसुलझा छोड़ दिया गया है।

kiṁ cety arthaḥ mārgād api |
kiṁ ca iti arthaḥthe sense is 'and what is more…' — 'moreover' Jīva supplies kiṁ ca as the force carried by the line'और भी' — यह अर्थ है (जीव 'kiṁ ca' को इस पंक्ति में निहित बल के रूप में जोड़ते हैं)
mārgāt apieven from the path api = 'even'; scales the claim up — not just anywhere, even off the settled path they do not slipमार्ग से भी (api = 'भी'; दावे को ऊँचा करता है — केवल कहीं से नहीं, बल्कि निश्चित मार्ग से भी वे नहीं गिरते)
kiṁ ca iti arthaḥ — the sense is 'moreover'; mārgāt api — even from the path.
kiṁ ca iti arthaḥ — 'और भी' यह अर्थ; mārgāt api — मार्ग से भी (नहीं गिरते)
Jīva reads a rising 'moreover' into the line. The point of 'from the path' is 'even from the path' — they do not slip off even the settled path.
'और भी' — यही अर्थ है। वे निश्चित मार्ग से भी नहीं गिरते। 'भी' शब्द बात को और बढ़ा देता है।

kiṁ punar mṛgyāt |
kiṁ punarhow much more so — the 'all the more' of an a-fortiori step kaimutika-nyāya: if the lesser holds, the greater holds even more surelyफिर मृग्य का तो कहना ही क्या (कैमुतिक-न्याय — जब छोटा सिद्ध, तब बड़ा और भी निश्चित)
mṛgyātfrom what has to be sought out [i.e. the goal/track one searches for] ablative, paired against mārgāt of s2; sense of mṛgya ('to be sought') is the hard part hereमृग्य से (पंचमी, s2 के mārgāt के प्रति रखा गया; mṛgya = 'जो खोजा जाना है' — यहाँ यही अंश कठिन है)
mārgāt api (na bhraśyanti) — they slip not even from the path; kiṁ punar mṛgyāt — how much more [not] from what must be sought.
mārgāt api (na bhraśyanti) — मार्ग से भी नहीं गिरते; kiṁ punar mṛgyāt — फिर मृग्य से तो कहना ही क्या
Jīva turns it into an 'even… how much more' argument. If they do not slip even from the path, then how much more surely do they hold to what has to be sought out.
जब मार्ग से भी नहीं गिरते, तो मृग्य से गिरने की बात ही क्या। यह कैमुतिक-न्याय है — छोटा सिद्ध होने पर बड़ा और भी निश्चित।
mṛgyāt (from mṛgya, 'to be sought') is set against mārgāt; the exact referent is compressed, but the move is a-fortiori — the lesser case granted, the greater follows.

Jīva's bottom line: because they have taken shelter of you, they simply do not reckon with obstacles at all. That is the purport of the verse.
क्योंकि वे तेरा आश्रय लेते हैं, इसलिए विघ्नों को कुछ गिनते ही नहीं। यही इस श्लोक का तात्पर्यार्थ है।

Viśvanātha spells out the contrast. Just as non-devotees fall away, so — by contrast — your own devotees do not fall from the path of bhajana. He reads 'tathā' as marking that difference, and names the 'path' as the path of worship.
हे माधव! जैसे अभक्त गिरते हैं, वैसे तेरे भक्त नहीं। विश्वनाथ tāvakāḥ को 'तेरे भक्त' और mārga को 'भजन-मार्ग' बताते हैं — वे भजन-मार्ग से नहीं गिरते।

Viśvanātha finishes the picture. 'Guarded by you' means protected on every side. The 'captain of the Vināyaka army' is the general commanding the army that is made of obstacles. Roaming on his heads means: because they have taken your shelter, they give the obstacles no thought at all. That is the purport — the same conclusion Jīva reaches.
'तेरे द्वारा रक्षित' अर्थात् सब ओर से सुरक्षित होकर वे विघ्नरूपी सेना के अधिपति के सिरों पर विचरते हैं। क्योंकि वे तेरा आश्रय लेते हैं, विघ्नों को कुछ गिनते ही नहीं। यही तात्पर्यार्थ है।
