prāmṛjat ity upalakṣaṇam |
prāmṛjat itithe word 'he wiped' — the pratīka Viśvanātha picks up'प्रामृजत्' (पोंछ दिए) यह पद
upalakṣaṇamis an indicator — it stands for more than it literally namesउपलक्षण है
prāmṛjat iti — the word 'he wiped'; upalakṣaṇam — is an upalakṣaṇa, an indicating mark.
Viśvanātha says the word 'he wiped [their faces]' is an upalakṣaṇa — a pointer that names one act but signals a whole set of them.
upalakṣaṇa vs viśeṣaṇa: a viśeṣaṇa names part of what the thing itself IS ('the blue lotus' — blueness belongs to it), while an upalakṣaṇa only points you to it and drops away ('the house with the crow on it' — the crow is not part of the house). Here 'wiped their faces' is the crow: it flags Kṛṣṇa's whole loving after-care, not just the wiping — spelled out in the next sentence.

Viśvanātha fills in what the pointer 'he wiped' really covers: during the love-play their hair, ornaments and clothes had all come undone, and out of love Kṛṣṇa set every bit of it right — not just their faces. Understand it that way.
