vyabhicāriṇaḥare the vyabhicāri (the passing, transient feelings)व्यभिचारी (भाव) — जो आते-जाते रहने वाले हैं
atha — now; ucyante — are described; trayas-triṁśat-bhāvāḥ ye — the thirty-three states which; vyabhicāriṇaḥ — are the vyabhicārins.
Now Rūpa takes up the thirty-three states that are called vyabhicāri — the fleeting feelings that come and go around the standing emotion. This verse and the next give the definition of the term.
A lakṣaṇa (definition) verse for vyabhicāri-bhāva, the transient feelings of the fourth wave (2.4). 'trayas-triṁśat' fixes their number at thirty-three.

sthāyinaṁ pratitoward the sthāyin (the standing, root emotion) prati + accusative — the direction the movement facesस्थायी भाव की ओर (जिस ओर यह गति उन्मुख होती है)
ye bhāvāḥ — which states; viśeṣeṇa ābhimukhyena — in a special way, facing toward; sthāyinaṁ prati caranti — move toward the standing emotion.
They move in a special way, always turned to face the sthāyin, the root emotion. That facing-toward is the point: they surge up and subside, but their whole motion is oriented to the standing mood they serve. From this 'moving' (car-) comes the name vyabhicārin.

How do you spot them? By three tells: speech, the body, and sattva (the inner-nature reactions like tears or trembling). Read those three signs and you know which passing feeling is at play.

bhāvasya gatiṁ sañcārayanti — they carry along the course of the emotion; api — so; sañcāriṇaḥ — they are also called sañcārin.
Because they keep the emotion's course flowing — carrying it forward, driving it on — they also earn a second name: sañcārin, 'the ones that make it move along.' Same states, two names: vyabhicārin from how they face the sthāyin, sañcārin from how they move it forward.

vācā — by speech; aṅgena bhrū-netrādinā — by the body, i.e. the brows, eyes, and so on; sattvena ca sattvotpannena anubhāvena — and by sattva, that is, by the anubhāva born of sattva; sūcyā jñāpyāḥ — by such an indicator they are to be made known.
Jīva unpacks the compound vāg-aṅga-sattva-sūcya word by word. 'Body' he specifies as the brows, eyes and so on. 'Sattva' he takes as the anubhāva that arises from sattva — the outward reaction, not the raw inner nature. So the three tells are speech, the expressive body, and the sattva-born reactions; by these the transient feelings are made known.

vyabhicāri-padasya avayava-vyutpattyā lakṣaṇam āha — he defines 'vyabhicārin' by a parts-etymology; viśeṣeṇa iti — with 'viśeṣeṇa'; viśeṣeṇa ābhimukhyena = viśeṣa-sāhāyyena — meaning by a special assistance; ye bhāvāḥ sthāyinaṁ prati caranti — the states that move toward the sthāyin; atha ca vacasā aṅgena vā sattvena antaḥ-karaṇa-dharmeṇa vā sūcyāḥ = sūcitāḥ — and are indicated by speech, body, or sattva (a property of the inner faculty); te vyabhicāriṇaḥ jñeyāḥ — those are to be known as vyabhicārin; evaṁ te bhāvāḥ sañcāri-padena api ucyante — likewise they are also called sañcārin; ataḥ tat-padasya api avayava-vyutpattyā lakṣaṇam āha — so he defines that word too by its parts; sañcārayanti iti — with 'sañcārayanti'.
Viśvanātha reads both names as parts-definitions — you learn the thing from the make-up of its very word. For vyabhicārin he glosses 'viśeṣeṇa ābhimukhyena' as 'by rendering a special assistance': the states that, so helping, move toward the sthāyin, and that show themselves through speech, body, or sattva — which he specifies as a property of the inner faculty (antaḥ-karaṇa) — those are the vyabhicārins. Then he notes these same states also go by the name sañcārin, so Rūpa likewise defines that word from its parts, with 'sañcārayanti' — 'they carry the emotion's course along.'
avayava-vyutpatti = deriving a definition from the components of the word itself: vi-abhi-cār- for vyabhicārin, sam-cār- for sañcārin. Viśvanātha stresses that both terms are two names for the one class of thirty-three transient states.
