tvayy arpitaṁ vitara veṇum iti pramādī
tvayy arpitaṁthe flute that was entrusted to you past participle qualifying veṇum; 'placed in your care'जो तुम्हें सौंपी गई थी (वंशी का विशेषण)
vitarahand it over, give it backदे दो
veṇumthe fluteवंशी को
itiso ran my command (closing the quoted words)ऐसा (कहने पर)
pramādīhe, now flustered and off his guardवह प्रमादी (असावधान जन)
tvayi arpitaṁ veṇum — the flute entrusted to you; vitara — hand over; iti — so [I said]; pramādī — [and he,] flustered
tvayy arpitaṁ — जो तुम्हें सौंपी गई थी; veṇum — उस वंशी को; vitara — दे दो; iti — ऐसा (सुनकर); pramādī — वह प्रमादी।
'Hand over the flute that was placed in your care' — those were my words. And at them the fellow lost his composure.
'तुम्हें जो वंशी सौंपी गई थी, वह दे दो' — यह सुनकर वह असावधान जन (आगे कहा जाने वाला होता है)।
An udāharaṇa illustrating svara-bhaṅga, the breaking of the voice (here the choked, stammering throat of L3), arising from bhī (fear) — the lead-in reads 'bhīter, yathā—', 'of fear, as follows.' Viśvanātha names the cause outright in his gloss on 'tat' (s3): 'tasmāt svara-bhaṅgāt', 'because of that breaking of the voice.' Per Viśvanātha the speaker is Subala, addressing Kṛṣṇa about a servant named Patrī.

udīrṇa iti — [he comments on the verse] beginning 'udīrṇa…'
udīrṇā iti — 'उदीर्ण' इत्यादि पद।
Jīva flags the line by its word udīrṇa and begins to comment.
आचार्य जिस पद की व्याख्या करना चाहते हैं, उसका आरम्भिक शब्द 'उदीर्ण' उठाते हैं।
A pratīka: the ācārya quotes just the opening word of the phrase he means to explain.
यह प्रतीक है — आचार्य जिस पद को समझाना चाहते हैं, उसका केवल आरम्भिक शब्द उद्धृत करते हैं।

niṣṭhāyāṁ traiyādika ṛ gatāv ity asya dīrghasya rūpaṁ |
niṣṭhāyāṁin forming the past participle (the niṣṭhā, i.e. the -ta/-na form) locative of the grammatical operation: 'when the niṣṭhā suffix is added'जब निष्ठा प्रत्यय जुड़ता है तब (सप्तमी)
traiyādika ṛ gatāv iti asyaof this root ṛ, 'to go' (cited from the root-list as 'ṛ gatau') traiyādika marks the grammatical class the root belongs to'ऋ गतौ' इस त्र्यादिक धातु का
dīrghasya rūpaṁthis is its form with the vowel lengthenedदीर्घ हुए (उसी धातु) का रूप है
'ṛ gatau' iti asya — of this root ṛ, 'to go'; niṣṭhāyāṁ — in the past participle; dīrghasya rūpaṁ — [udīrṇa is] the lengthened form
niṣṭhāyāṁ — निष्ठा प्रत्यय के जुड़ने पर; traiyādika ṛ gatāv iti asya — 'ऋ गतौ' इस त्र्यादिक धातु का; dīrghasya rūpaṁ — दीर्घ हुए रूप का।
The udīrṇa here is the past participle of ud + √ṛ ('to go'). When the participle suffix is added, the ṛ lengthens — giving the -īrṇa ending.
निष्ठा प्रत्यय जुड़ने पर 'ऋ गतौ' इस त्र्यादिक धातु के दीर्घ हुए का यह रूप है।
A grammarian's aside: it pins down why the word is udīrṇa and not some other form.
यह व्याकरण-विषयक टिप्पणी है — यह बताती है कि शब्द 'उदीर्ण' क्यों है, कोई अन्य रूप नहीं।

patrī pūrvavan nāmā śrī-kṛṣṇa-sevaka-viśeṣaḥ |
patrī pūrvavan nāmā'Patrī' is a proper name, as it was earlier pūrvavat — the name was already used in an earlier verseपत्री — पूर्ववत् (पहले प्रयुक्त) एक नाम
śrī-kṛṣṇa-sevaka-viśeṣaḥa particular servant of Śrī Kṛṣṇaश्रीकृष्ण का कोई विशेष सेवक है
patrī — Patrī; pūrvavat nāmā — is a name as before; śrī-kṛṣṇa-sevaka-viśeṣaḥ — a certain servant of Śrī Kṛṣṇa
patrī pūrvavat nāmā — पत्री, पूर्ववत् एक नाम; śrī-kṛṣṇa-sevaka-viśeṣaḥ — श्रीकृष्ण का कोई विशेष सेवक।
Patrī, as in the earlier verse, is a proper name — a particular servant of Kṛṣṇa.
पत्री पहले की तरह एक नाम है — श्रीकृष्ण का कोई विशेष सेवक।
So Jīva and Viśvanātha agree that Patrī is a person's name, not a common word.
इस प्रकार जीव और विश्वनाथ दोनों सहमत हैं कि पत्री व्यक्ति का नाम है, कोई सामान्य शब्द नहीं।

hāritaḥ — 'हारित' अर्थात्; sthānāvadhānena nāśitaḥ asti — स्थान की अवधानता से नष्ट कर दी गई है; iti arthaḥ — यह अर्थ है।
Jīva glosses hārita: the flute was 'made lost' — it slipped away because he failed to keep track of where it was.
'हारित' का अर्थ है — स्थान की अवधानता (के चूकने) से वह नष्ट कर दी गई है।
The reading sthāna(a)vadhānena is difficult; literally 'attention to its place', taken as the attention that lapsed.
'स्थान-अवधान' पाठ कठिन है; शाब्दिक रूप से 'स्थान पर ध्यान', जिसे यहाँ वह ध्यान माना गया है जो चूक गया।

Viśvanātha sets the scene: Patrī is a servant of Kṛṣṇa. Pointing at him, Subala tells Kṛṣṇa: 'When he heard me say hand over the flute entrusted to you, he lost his attention — pramādī, off his guard — and the color drained from his face.'
पत्री नामक श्रीकृष्ण के दास को लक्ष्य बनाकर सुबल श्रीकृष्ण से कहता है — 'तुम्हें सौंपी गई वंशी दे दो' — मेरा यह वचन सुनकर वह अवधानरहित प्रमादी हो गया, जिसके मुख पर पीलापन उठ आया।
Viśvanātha names the speaker as Subala and the addressee as Kṛṣṇa, and reads vitara as dehi, 'give'; udīrṇa is taken as udgata, 'arisen'.
विश्वनाथ वक्ता को सुबल और संबोधित को श्रीकृष्ण बताते हैं, तथा 'वितर' को 'देहि' अर्थात् 'दे दो' पढ़ते हैं; 'उदीर्ण' को 'उद्गत' अर्थात् 'उठा हुआ' लेते हैं।

tat — [the word] tat; tasmāt svara-bhaṅgāt — [means] because of that breaking of the voice
tat — 'तत्' अर्थात्; tasmāt svara-bhaṅgāt — उस स्वरभंग के कारण।
Viśvanātha unpacks tat: it means 'because of that' — that is, because his voice broke. This is the sāttvika svara-bhaṅga named outright.
'तत्' का अर्थ है — उस स्वरभंग के कारण।
Here the lakṣaṇa the verse illustrates is stated in a single word: svara-bhaṅga, the breaking of the voice — the sāttvika born of fear.
यहाँ जिस लक्षण का यह पद्य उदाहरण है, वह एक ही शब्द में कह दिया गया — स्वरभंग, अर्थात् कण्ठ का रुँधना, जो भय से उत्पन्न सात्त्विक भाव है।

Viśvanātha closes: by this same Patrī the flute has been lost — lost, that is, through his own inattention.
इसी पत्री के द्वारा वह वंशी खो दी गई है — अर्थात् अपनी असावधानी के कारण उसने उसे खो दिया।
Viśvanātha reads the loss as caused by Patrī's own inattention (sva-anavadhāna), his fear having broken his voice and scattered his mind.
विश्वनाथ इस खोने का कारण पत्री की अपनी असावधानी बताते हैं — भय ने उसका स्वर तोड़ दिया और मन बिखेर दिया।
