romāñco’yaṁ kilāścarya-harṣotsāha-bhayādijaḥ |
ayaṁ romāñcaḥthis horripilation, the standing-up of the body-hairयह रोमांच
kilaindeedनिश्चय ही
āścarya-harṣotsāha-bhayādijaḥarises from wonder, joy, enthusiasm, fear, and the like -jaḥ, 'born from', governs the whole prior compound as its causeआश्चर्य, हर्ष, उत्साह, भय आदि से उत्पन्न होता है
ayaṁ romāñcaḥ — this horripilation; kila — indeed; āścarya-harṣotsāha-bhayādijaḥ — is born from wonder, joy, enthusiasm, fear, and so on.
Now the sāttvika-bhāva called romāñca. This bristling of the hair, he says, springs up from wonder, joy, enthusiasm, fear, and other such feelings.
The lakṣaṇa of romāñca, the third sāttvika-bhāva of this laharī; here Rūpa lists its causes (wonder, joy, enthusiasm, fear, etc.), and L2 gives what it looks like.

romṇām abhyudgamas tatra gātra-saṁsparśanādayaḥ ||
romṇām abhyudgamaḥis the bristling-up of the body-hairs romṇām genitive: the hairs' rising is the very thing named romāñcaरोमों का उठ खड़ा होना — जो रोमों का है वही रोमांच कहलाता है
tatraand in this stateउस अवस्था में
gātra-saṁsparśanādayaḥits outward signs are touching one's own limbs and the likeशरीर का स्पर्श करना आदि (क्रियाएँ होती हैं)
romṇām abhyudgamaḥ — [romāñca] is the bristling-up of the body-hairs; tatra — and in this state; gātra-saṁsparśanādayaḥ — [the visible acts are] touching one's limbs, and so on.
What it actually is: the hairs of the body standing on end. And while it lasts, the person does things like run a hand over their own limbs — those are its telltale actions.
gātra-saṁsparśana here names the anubhāvas that accompany romāñca — the visible responses that show it is present.

ḍimbhasya jṛmbhāṁ bhajatas trīlokīṁ
ḍimbhasyaof the little child (the baby Kṛṣṇa)बालक का
jṛmbhāṁ bhajataḥwho was in the act of yawning genitive participle agreeing with ḍimbhasya — 'of the child, as he yawned'जब वह जँभाई ले रहा था — बालक से जुड़ा हुआ
trīlokīmthe three worlds [she saw]तीनों लोकों को
jṛmbhāṁ bhajataḥ ḍimbhasya — of the little child as he was yawning; trīlokīm — the three worlds.
The baby opens his mouth to yawn. And inside that yawning child's mouth, the whole triad of worlds comes into view.
An udāharaṇa of romāñca arising from āścarya (wonder) — the lead-in reads 'tatra āścaryād, yathā' ('of these causes, from wonder, as follows'), BRS 2.3.32-33.

vilokya vailakṣyavatī mukhāntaḥ |
vilokyahaving seen [them] absolutive — 'once she had seen', setting up babhūva in L5देखकर — देख लेने पर
mukhāntaḥthere inside his mouthमुख के भीतर
mukhāntaḥ vilokya — having seen [the three worlds] there inside his mouth; vailakṣyavatī — struck with astonishment.
Once she has seen all that inside his mouth, she is seized with amazement.
vailakṣya is the pivotal word the commentators stop to gloss (see Jīva and Viśvanātha below): here it means vismaya, astonishment, not its ordinary sense of embarrassment or being at a loss.

babhūvabecame [as L6 describes]हो गई
iyaṁ goṣṭhendra-kuṭumbinī — she, the housewife of the cowherd-chief; babhūva — became [what L6 says].
And so this woman, the wife of the cowherd chief, became — and here comes the description of her body.
goṣṭhendra-kuṭumbinī, 'the housewife of the lord of the cowherd village', is Nanda's wife — Yaśodā, Kṛṣṇa's mother.

tanu-ruhaiḥ — by her body-hairs; kuḍmalitāṅga-yaṣṭiḥ — [she became] one whose slender frame was studded with buds.
Her hair stood up all over her, so that her slim body looked like a stalk breaking out in buds. That is romāñca from wonder, shown in the mother's very skin.
kuḍmalita, 'turned to buds': each erect hair on the standing skin is likened to a flower-bud on a stalk (yaṣṭi) — the poetic image of horripilation.

vailakṣyaṁ tu vismayaḥ |
vailakṣyaṁ tuthe word vailakṣya, though [one might read it otherwise], here'वैलक्ष्य' शब्द का अर्थ तो
vismayaḥmeans astonishmentविस्मय (है)
vailakṣyaṁ tu — as for vailakṣya; vismayaḥ — [it means] astonishment.
Jīva pins down the verse-word: vailakṣya here is not embarrassment but vismaya — astonishment.

vilakṣo vismayānvita ity amaraḥ ||
vilakṣo vismayānvitaḥ'vilakṣa means one filled with astonishment''विलक्ष' अर्थात् विस्मय से युक्त
iti amaraḥso states the Amara[-kośa]ऐसा अमरकोश कहता है
vilakṣo vismayānvitaḥ iti — [the lexicon entry] 'vilakṣa = filled with astonishment'; amaraḥ — [says] Amara.
And he backs it with the dictionary: the Amara-kośa itself lists vilakṣa as meaning 'one filled with astonishment.'
Why cited: lexical proof from the Amara-kośa that vailakṣya / vilakṣa carries the sense 'astonished', justifying the gloss vismaya.

Viśvanātha walks the verse through: ḍimbha is a little boy; she saw the three worlds right inside his mouth; and vailakṣyavatī means she was filled with astonishment — quoting, like Jīva, the Amara-kośa that vilakṣa means 'astonished.'
