parimala-sarid eṣā yad vahantī samantāt
eṣāthis here (the one flooding over us) nominative, subject of the first clause; picked up by kāpy apūrvā in L2यह (जो सामने बह रही है) — प्रथम वाक्य का कर्ता, जिसे L2 में 'कोई अपूर्वा' कहकर फिर उठाया गया है
yadwhich — and because it does so (the reason for the guess in L3) relative; Viśvanātha reads it as yasmāt, 'because'जो — सम्बन्धवाचक; विश्वनाथ इसे 'यस्मात्' अर्थात् 'क्योंकि' के रूप में पढ़ते हैं
eṣā parimala-sarit — this river of fragrance; samantāt vahantī — flowing on every side; yad — which / because it does
Look — this is a river of fragrance, flooding out on every side. And because it does what the next line says, I draw the conclusion in line three.
An udāharaṇa of aṅga-saurabham, the fragrance of Kṛṣṇa's body (2.1); the lead-in reads 'atha aṅga-saurabhaṁ, yathā—'. The verse is spoken by the sages at Kurukṣetra: they smell an unearthly fragrance and reason back to its source.

It makes our bodies bristle with thrill — us, the sages standing here. It is some river we cannot name, one there has never been before.

So I suppose it was Kṛṣṇa, the foe of Madhu. At the eclipse he must have wanted to enjoy this very thing —

that Kṛṣṇa, himself an ocean of flawless fragrance, came into Kurukṣetra. The river we smell is the overflow of that ocean.
The image completes itself: Kṛṣṇa is the sindhu (ocean), and the sarit (river) of L1 is what pours off him — so the sages reason from the fragrance back to his presence.

There is a variant reading, 'vinaśanam', in place of kuru-bhuvam. Jīva notes it but does not accept it — kuru-bhuvam is the text he keeps.
vinaśana ('the destroying-place') is an alternative name for the Kurukṣetra plain; the note is text-critical, recording a manuscript variant Jīva rejects, not a second interpretation of the meaning.

Viśvanātha reads line one and two together as one clause: some unprecedented river of fragrance, flowing on every side, because it makes our sage-bodies bristle. He fixes the small words — sarit is nadī, naḥ is asmākaṁ, and the crucial yad he takes as yasmāt, 'because', turning the horripilation into the ground for the inference to come.
