śambhur vṛṣaṁ nayati mandara-kandarāntar
śambhuḥŚambhu (Śiva) — the one who does the followingशम्भु (शिव)
vṛṣamhis bull (Nandi) — leads him awayअपने बैल को
mandara-kandara-antarinto the inside of a cave on Mount Mandara the -antar (=antaḥ) marks the goal; ā- extends 'into the depths of'मन्दर पर्वत की गुफा के भीतर (जहाँ पहुँचना है)
śambhuḥ — Śambhu; vṛṣam — his bull; mandara-kandara-antar — into a Mandara cave; nayati — leads.
Śiva leads his own bull, Nandi, away into a cave on Mount Mandara. Even Śiva pulls his bull back to hide.
An udāharaṇa of duṣṭa-vadha, 'the slaying of the wicked' (the lead-in cites Lalita-mādhava 9.50) — here the killing of Ariṣṭa, the bull-demon. The scene: a bystander marvels that even Śiva's mighty bull flees while Kṛṣṇa dispatches Ariṣṭa with a mere fraction of play.

mlānaḥ salīlam api yatra śiro dhunāne |
mlānaḥgrown faint, dejected — describing Śiva as he leads the bull awayम्लान (भय से मुरझाया) होकर
salīlam apieven in mere play, playfully at that api concedes it is only sport, not real effort — yet the effect is terrifyingखेल-खेल में ही — 'भी' शब्द दिखाता है कि यह मात्र लीला है, कोई वास्तविक प्रयत्न नहीं, फिर भी प्रभाव भयंकर है
yatrawhen / in the moment that — sets up the locative-absolute clauseजब
śiraḥhis head — the object shakenसिर को
dhunāneas [Ariṣṭa] shakes it locative absolute (yatra … dhunāne [sati]): 'when he tosses his head'हिलाने पर (सति-सप्तमी) — 'जब वह सिर हिलाता है'
yatra — when; [ariṣṭe] śiraḥ dhunāne — [Ariṣṭa] tosses his head; salīlam api — even just in play; mlānaḥ — [Śiva,] gone faint; [vṛṣaṁ nayati] — [leads his bull away].
And this happens the moment Ariṣṭa merely tosses his head in play. Just that playful shake makes Śiva go faint and pull his bull away. The demon is not even trying yet.
yatra ties L2 back to L1: it is the locative-absolute 'when [Ariṣṭa] shakes his head' that occasions Śiva's flight. Viśvanātha spells out the missing agent (ariṣṭāsure).

āḥ kautukaṁ kalaya keli-lavād ariṣṭaṁ
āḥAh! — an interjection; the commentators take it as impatience/anger at the inattentive listenerआः!
kautukamthe marvel, the wonder — behold this!
kalayalook! behold! (a command to the listener)देखो
keli-lavātfrom just a sliver of play, with a mere fraction of sport ablative of means: the killing cost only a scrap of playलीला के लेशमात्र से — इतने से ही यह वध हो गया (पंचमी, साधन)
ariṣṭamAriṣṭa (the bull-demon) — the object, continued into L4अरिष्ट को
āḥ — Ah!; kautukam — the wonder; kalaya — behold!; keli-lavāt — from a mere fraction of play; ariṣṭam — Ariṣṭa …
Ah — pay attention, behold the marvel! With just a scrap of play, Hari finished Ariṣṭa. The 'āḥ' is the speaker snapping at a listener whose mind has wandered.
The object ariṣṭam begun here is picked up in L4 as taṁ duṣṭa-puṅgavam ('that wicked bull'). On 'āḥ' see Jīva and Viśvanātha below: they read it as kopa, anger.

asau hariḥ — this Hari; tam duṣṭa-puṅgavam — that wicked bull; keli-lavāt — from a mere fraction of play; unmamātha — uprooted (slew).
This Hari tore up that wicked bull by the roots. And he did it with only a fraction of play. That is the wonder the speaker points at.
duṣṭa-puṅgava names the demon as both a literal bull and 'the chief of the wicked' — the pun carries the duṣṭa-vadha theme of the illustration.

Jīva picks up the verse by its opening word, 'śambhuḥ'. This is just his way of announcing which verse he is about to gloss.

Jīva says the 'āḥ' of the verse carries the sense of anger, not just plain wonder. The speaker is a little annoyed.

Jīva backs the reading with a dictionary: the interjection 'ās' is listed for anger and for pain. So taking 'āḥ' as anger has lexical support.

Why cited: Lexical proof that the interjection 'āḥ / ās' denotes anger (kopa), grounding the reading given in s2.

Viśvanātha reconstrues the verse in plain order: the moment Ariṣṭāsura tosses his head, Śiva goes faint and leads his bull into the cave. He names the unnamed demon as Ariṣṭāsura and turns the terse mūla into a full sentence.
Viśvanātha's lemma reads maranda-kandarā where the mūla line L1 has mandara-kandarā — a divergence in the source text, left unharmonized. He renders the compound's -antar as -madhye, 'in the midst of.'
