An udāharaṇa ("yathā vā—", a further example) in the prathama-laharī (vibhāva) of the Dakṣiṇa-vibhāga. Viśvanātha (s1) frames it as a second illustration supplied because the previous example seemed to leave out a cause; the verse is a śleṣa carrying a devotional reading and a monsoon-cloud reading side by side.

amṛta-spṛhā-hara reads two ways (see Viśvanātha s5): the mercy that ends the longing for the nectar of immortality, and, in the cloud-reading, the cloud whose sight ends the longing for water.

The horripilation is read as the leaping of the monsoon fish that herald the rain-cloud — the śleṣa the whole verse turns on.

Someone might object that the previous example gave no cause for the obstacle. So Viśvanātha says Rūpa offers a further example, opening with "yathā vā—", "or, as follows."
This is why the verse is a second udāharaṇa rather than a fresh definition.

On the cloud-reading, the same words mean: "the big-haired ones" are the fish; from their abundant leaping about, the rising of the black rain-cloud is at hand. This is the monsoon layer of the śleṣa — the leaping fish that announce the coming of the dark cloud. Viśvanātha does not collapse the two readings; he lets both stand.
The pivot of the śleṣa: pṛthu-roma = fish (not bristling hair), tāṇḍava = their leaping, and kṛṣṇa = "dark-colored" (not the name). The devotional reading of s3 is not overwritten.
