L1definition
vṛṣabhasyeva gambhīrā gatir dhīraṁ ca vīkṣaṇam |
vṛṣabhasya ivalike a bull's iva = comparison; per Jīva and Viśvanātha it governs both the gait and the glance belowबैल के समान — 'इव' यह तुलना नीचे की गति और दृष्टि, दोनों से जुड़ती है
gambhīrā gatiḥthe gait is grave and deepगम्भीर चाल
dhīraṁ ca vīkṣaṇamand the glance is steadyऔर धीर (अविचल) दृष्टि
vṛṣabhasya iva — like a bull's; gambhīrā gatiḥ — the gait is grave; dhīram ca vīkṣaṇam — and the glance is steady
The definition of vilāsa opens: a gait grave and deep like a bull's, and a steady glance. Jīva and Viśvanātha both note the 'like a bull' carries over onto the glance too, not just the gait.
The lakṣaṇa (definition) of vilāsa, one of the anubhāvas — the bodily signs that betray the inner mood. This verse names its three marks: gait, glance, and smiling speech.
L2definition
sa-smitaṁ ca vaco yatra sa vilāsa itīryate ||
sa-smitaṁ ca vacaḥand the speech is accompanied by a smileऔर मुस्कान सहित वचन
yatrawherever these are found locative relative; the correlative 'saḥ' answers itजहाँ (जिसमें ये चिह्न हों)
saḥ vilāsaḥ iti īryatethat is what is called vilāsaवह 'विलास' कहलाता है
yatra — wherever; sa-smitam ca vacaḥ — the speech too is smiling; saḥ vilāsaḥ iti īryate — that is called vilāsa
And where the speech is smiling as well — that state is called vilāsa. So three signs together define it: the deep gait, the steady glance, and the smiling word.

malla-śreṇyām avinayavatīṁ mantharāṁ nyasya dṛṣṭiṁ
malla-śreṇyāmon the row of wrestlers locative of where the glance is castपहलवानों की पंक्ति पर — जहाँ दृष्टि डाली जा रही है
nyasyahaving cast it downडालकर
malla-śreṇyām — on the row of wrestlers; avinayavatīm mantharām dṛṣṭim — a disdainful, slow glance; nyasya — having cast
Kṛṣṇa casts a slow, disdainful glance across the line of wrestlers. This scene illustrates the steady glance (dhīraṁ vīkṣaṇam) of the definition; 'mantharā' (slow, unhurried) shows the steadiness, and 'avinayavatī' (disdainful) shows its fearless self-possession.
The udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of vilāsa, whose lakṣaṇa was just given at 2.1.255. The scene is Kṛṣṇa entering Kaṁsa's wrestling arena; Viśvanātha names the lotus-eyed one as Śrī Kṛṣṇa (s5).

dvipa ivalike an elephant the simile for his gait; Jīva records the variant 'vṛṣa iva', like a bull (s4), matching the definition's bullहाथी के समान — यह उनकी चाल की उपमा है; जीव 'वृष इव' (बैल के समान) पाठान्तर देते हैं (s4), जो लक्षण के बैल से मेल खाता है
bhuvaṁthe earthपृथ्वी को

dvipa iva — like an elephant; vikrama-āḍambareṇa — by his show of prowess; bhuvam vyādhunvānaḥ — shaking the earth
He shakes the earth with his swaggering display of might, like an elephant. This answers to the grave, deep gait (gambhīrā gatiḥ) of the definition. Jīva and Viśvanātha both note a variant reading 'like a bull' here, which would echo the definition's own bull-simile.

As he starts to speak, the fragrance of his smile seems to wash the whole ring of galleries clean. This illustrates the smiling speech (sa-smitaṁ vacaḥ) of the definition.

So the lotus-eyed one strode out onto the raised arena floor. Viśvanātha (s5) names him: 'sārasākṣa', lotus-eyed, is Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

Jīva's point on syntax: the 'like a bull' (vṛṣabhasya iva) is to be read with both words — the gait AND the glance. Not just the gait is bull-like; the steady glance is too.

yataḥ mantharā — because the glance is slow; namratā-vaiyagrya-ādi-śūnyā — void of meekness or agitation; tataḥ eva avinayavatī iti jñeyam — therefore it is to be understood as disdainful
Jīva ties two words of the example together. The glance is 'mantharā' (slow, unhurried) precisely because it has no meekness and no nervous flurry in it. And that very absence is why it is called 'avinayavatī' — disdainful, without deference.

Jīva records a variant: where the text reads 'dvipa iva' (like an elephant), some copies read 'vṛṣa iva' (like a bull) — which would chime with the definition's own bull-simile. He leaves both readings standing.

yato mantharāṁ namratā-vaiyagryādi-śūnyām ata evāvinayavatīti jñeyam |
yataḥ mantharāṁbecause [he casts] the glance 'mantharā' (slow, unhurried) accusative — agrees with the example verse's 'mantharāṁ dṛṣṭim'; yataḥ...ata eva = because...thereforeचूँकि (दृष्टि को) मन्थर — यह उदाहरण-श्लोक के 'मन्थरां दृष्टिम्' से मेल खाता द्वितीया है
namratā-vaiyagrya-ādi-śūnyāmone empty of any meekness, flurry, and the likeनम्रता, व्यग्रता आदि से रहित (कहा है)
ata eva avinayavatī iti jñeyamfor that very reason it is to be understood as 'avinayavatī' (disdainful)इसीलिए उसे 'अविनयवती' समझना चाहिए
yataḥ mantharām — because the glance is slow; namratā-vaiyagrya-ādi-śūnyām — void of meekness or agitation; ata eva avinayavatī iti jñeyam — therefore it is to be understood as disdainful
Viśvanātha makes the same link as Jīva, but keeps the accusative of the example verse: because the glance he casts is slow and free of any meekness or flurry, that is exactly why it counts as 'avinayavatī', disdainful.
The wording tracks Jīva's almost verbatim; the difference is only the case — Viśvanātha keeps the accusatives ('mantharāṁ... śūnyām') to agree directly with the example verse's 'mantharāṁ dṛṣṭim', where Jīva shifts to the nominative.
