The Viṣṇu-yāmala names the eighteen great faults. First set: delusion, drowsiness, wandering error, dry loveless feeling, and fierce lust.
Opens the enumeration of the aṣṭādaśa-mahā-doṣāḥ, the eighteen 'great faults' quoted from the Viṣṇu-yāmala (lead-in: aṣṭādaśa-mahā-doṣāḥ, yathā viṣṇu-yāmale). The commentary will show that, tied to a devotee's love, these turn into virtues — and that two of them cannot occur in Kṛṣṇa at all.

Here is the key move. Called faults in general, these same eighteen — once they arise inside the bond of a devotee's love — turn into virtues. The rest of the comment shows each one at work in Kṛṣṇa's pastimes.

Take moha, delusion. When Kṛṣṇa returns and finds neither the calves nor the cowherd boys on the riverbank (Brahmā has hidden them), he is momentarily dazed — that is the 'delusion' of the list, and it is lovely, not a defect.
Why cited: Bhāgavata 10.13.16, cited to show Kṛṣṇa's moha (delusion) at the missing calves and boys.

But rukṣa-rasatā is different. It means attachment drained of any bond of love. Since Kṛṣṇa's every attachment is love itself, this 'fault' can never occur in him at all. Jīva and Viśvanātha mark it as one that does not apply.

Apprehension (āśaṅkā) appears when Kṛṣṇa, searching the forest and finding the boys nowhere, grows anxious.
Why cited: Bhāgavata 10.13.17, cited to show āśaṅkā (apprehension) in Kṛṣṇa when the boys cannot be found.

Viśva-vibhrama means being wholly caught up in the world. In Kṛṣṇa this is his absorption in caring for it — driven, through his bond with devotee-administrators like Brahmā, by the wish to protect the world. So Jīva and Viśvanātha read it as loving governance, not a defect.

Kṛṣṇa says: 'I am equal to all beings; none is hateful to me and none is dear.'
Why cited: Gītā 9.29 (first line), cited so its second line can show that Kṛṣṇa's 'partiality' toward devotees is itself declared by the Lord — the fault turned virtue.

The verse continues: 'but those who worship me with love — they are in me, and I am in them.' So Kṛṣṇa openly favours his devotees. This is vaiṣamya, partiality — and here it is a virtue.

Dependence on another (parāpekṣā) shows in Kṛṣṇa's own confession, 'I am wholly under the control of my devotees.' In him this dependence is the crown of his love, not a weakness. That closes the run through the eighteen.
Why cited: Bhāgavata 9.4.63, cited to show parāpekṣā (dependence on another) as Kṛṣṇa's willing subjection to his devotees.

kva śoka-mohau snehaḥ vā bhayaṁ vā ye ajña-sambhavāḥ'where are grief and delusion, or affection, or fear — things that arise from ignorance?' quoted; the rhetorical 'where?' denies these to the Lord'शोक और मोह, अथवा स्नेह अथवा भय — जो अज्ञान से उत्पन्न होते हैं, वे (भगवान् में) कहाँ?'

tasmāt kva śoka-mohau snehaḥ vā bhayaṁ vā ye ajña-sambhavāḥ iti atra tu — but in the verse 'where are grief, delusion, affection or fear, which spring from ignorance?'; ajña-sambhavāḥ ye te eva na santi — only the ignorance-born ones do not exist; na tu vijña-sambhavāḥ te api iti matam — not that the knowledge-born ones too [are absent]: such is the view.
An objection from scripture: doesn't the Bhāgavata ask 'where are grief, delusion, affection, or fear in the Lord?' — seeming to deny him such emotions altogether? Jīva and Viśvanātha answer with a precise reading of that very verse: it denies only the emotions born of ignorance. It does not deny the same emotions when they are born of full knowledge and love.
Why cited: Bhāgavata 10.77.31, cited as the apparent counter-text, then read narrowly: it denies Kṛṣṇa only the ignorance-born emotions, not the love-born ones.

And the proof that these emotions can spring from full knowledge: look at Śukadeva and other perfected sages. Of Śukadeva it is said that 'his every sense was stolen away' by remembering the endless Kṛṣṇa. Such delusion, born purely of love for Bhagavān, is real and praiseworthy. So the eighteen 'faults', when they arise from love, are virtues — even in the greatest knowers.
Why cited: Bhāgavata 10.12.44, cited to show that love-born (not ignorance-born) delusion occurs even in a full knower like Śukadeva — clinching the reply.
