At first the all-pervading Lord stood alone, with only his own shadow for company. Then he set about the bodies of the calves and the little boys.
पहले वे सर्वव्यापी प्रभु अकेले थे — केवल अपनी छाया ही उनकी साथिन थी। फिर उन्होंने बछड़ों, बालकों आदि के शरीरों को [रच डाला]।
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse, 2.1.195) of divya-sargādi-kartṛtvam — Kṛṣṇa's being the doer of divine creation and the rest — which Jīva calls the 'previously promised wonderfulness' (pūrva-pratijñātam adbhutatvam) now shown in action; the episode is the bewildering of Brahmā (brahma-mohana), where Kṛṣṇa himself became all the stolen calves and cowherd boys.
यह ३.१.

The reading of the first line here is fixed by Jīva (s3): 'vatsa-ḍimbhādi-dehān aṁśena' — the bodies made 'part by part'.
यहाँ पहली पंक्ति का पाठ जीव (स३) के अनुसार निश्चित है — 'vatsa-ḍimbhādi-dehān aṁśena', अर्थात् शरीर 'अंश-अंश से' बनाये गये।

वह सर्वात्मा तत्त्व आदि से युक्त [परिजनों] से घिरा हुआ था। फिर कमल से जन्मे [ब्रह्माओं] के द्वारा उसकी स्तुति होने लगी।
'kamalabhavaiḥ' (the lotus-born) is read as the plural Brahmās of the many universes who come to praise him — matching Viśvanātha's 'brahmādi-gaṇaiḥ'.

Jīva says: the opening phrase 'he was alone, only his shadow for company' is doing the work. On two counts — first, the whole episode is soaked in human-like play; second, its sheer instantaneousness gives away that he is God himself — this phrase illustrates the wonderfulness that was promised earlier.
'āsīc chāyā-dvitīyaḥ' — इस पद के द्वारा पहले प्रतिज्ञात अद्भुतता उदाहरण-रूप में दिखायी गयी है। यह अद्भुत इसलिए है क्योंकि यह नर-लीला से पूर्ण है, और क्योंकि यह एकाएक घटित होकर स्वयं-भगवत्ता को प्रकट करता है।

And yet again he had each one of them served — by the tattvas he had fashioned himself, by the hosts of Brahmā and the rest with all their retinues, and by whole universes. All of this he brought off utterly effortlessly. To that Lord, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, I surrender.
