Viśvanātha runs the whole verse through. He names the five afflictions from Yoga-sūtra 2.3. When a fivefold affliction of just this kind has been destroyed, the supreme — that is, the very best — happiness of Brahman shone forth of itself. And now, making even that happiness worthless, who is this dark one, whose very nature is a fullness of delight, shining before us? Where Jīva read 'making worthless' as 'covering over', Viśvanātha reads the dark one himself as delight-in-essence (pramoda-bhara-svarūpa).
Why cited: Yoga-sūtra 2.3 is brought in to identify the five kleśas the verse presupposes.
