L1definition
durvibodhāśayo yas tu sa gambhīraḥ itīryate ||
durvibodhāśayaḥone whose inner intent is hard to make out bahuvrīhi qualifying the man: āśaya = his inward mood/purpose, dur-vibodha = difficult to fathomजिसका आशय (मन का भीतरी भाव और अभिप्राय) कठिनता से समझा जा सके — बहुव्रीहि, पुरुष का विशेषण
yaḥ tuthe man who, for his partऔर जो (पुरुष)
saḥ gambhīraḥhe is the one called gambhīra, 'the deep / grave one'वह गम्भीर (कहलाता है)
iti īryateis so spoken of iti closes the naming; īryate passive, 'is called'इस प्रकार कहा जाता है — 'इति' नाम को पूरा करता है, ईर्यते कर्मवाच्य में 'कहा जाता है'
yaḥ tu durvibodhāśayaḥ — the man whose inner intent is hard to make out; saḥ gambhīraḥ iti īryate — he is spoken of as gambhīra.
Now the deep one. The man whose real feelings you cannot read — you never quite know what he is thinking — is called gambhīra, 'grave, deep'.
The lakṣaṇa (defining verse) of gambhīra, one of the nāyaka's (Kṛṣṇa's) qualities in this laharī; the udāharaṇa that illustrates it follows in 2.1.115.

vṛndāvane varātiḥ stutibhir nitarām upāsyamāno’pi |
vṛndāvanein Vṛndāvanaवृन्दावन में
varātiḥ[an epithet of Hari — nominative, agreeing with harir below] form is uncertain in the source; taken as a nom. sg. describing Hari, the one being worshipped(इस पद का रूप स्रोत में अनिश्चित है; इसे उपास्य हरि का विशेषण, प्रथमा एकवचन, माना गया है)
upāsyamānaḥ apithough being worshipped present passive participle, nom. sg. agreeing with harir; api = 'even so', concessive — sets up the reversal in L3उपासित होते हुए भी — वर्तमान कर्मवाच्य कृदन्त, हरि से अन्वित; 'भी' विरोध सूचित करता है और आगे L3 के उलटफेर की भूमिका बाँधता है
vṛndāvane — in Vṛndāvana; varātiḥ [hariḥ] — Hari; stutibhiḥ nitarām upāsyamānaḥ api — though being worshipped without let-up with praises.
In Vṛndāvana, Hari was being worshipped again and again with praises. And yet — as the next line says — even so.
An udāharaṇa of gambhīra, the quality defined in 2.1.114: a verse showing Kṛṣṇa so deep that his worshipper cannot read him.

śakto na harir vidhinā ruṣṭas tuṣṭo’thavā jñātum ||
śaktaḥ nawas not able with jñātum; Jīva reads it as passive — 'could not be known', see his gloss belowसमर्थ नहीं (जानने में) — जीव इसे कर्मवाच्य में पढ़ते हैं, 'जाना न जा सका', आगे उनकी व्याख्या देखें
hariḥHari — the one who could not be figured outहरि
vidhināby Vidhi, i.e. Brahmā the creator instrumental agent: the one doing the worshipping and the failing-to-knowविधि (ब्रह्मा) के द्वारा — तृतीया, जो उपासना करता और जान न पाता वही कर्ता
ruṣṭaḥ tuṣṭaḥ athavāwhether angry or pleased athavā couples the two guesses; predicate of jñātumरुष्ट है अथवा तुष्ट — 'अथवा' दोनों अटकलों को जोड़ता है, जानने का विषय
jñātumto be known / made outजानने के लिए
hariḥ vidhinā ruṣṭaḥ tuṣṭaḥ athavā jñātum na śaktaḥ — by Vidhi (Brahmā) Hari could not be made out to be either angry or pleased.
Even Brahmā, worshipping him so hard, could not tell whether Hari was angry or pleased with him. That is how deep Kṛṣṇa is — the very picture of gambhīra.

spaṣṭatārtha-yuktamcarries a plain, evident sense spaṣṭatā-artha-yuktam, nom. neut.: 'furnished with a meaning of clarity' — the reference is not obscureस्पष्ट अर्थ से युक्त — प्रथमा नपुंसक; इसका सन्दर्भ दुरूह नहीं है
tat-stuti-viśeṣasya spaṣṭatārtha-yuktam — [the verse] carries the plain sense of that particular praise.
Jīva notes that the specific praise being pointed to is the familiar one, and its sense here is plain — nothing hidden in the reference itself.
The 'particular praise' is Brahmā's well-known stuti offered to Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana, which Jīva treats as already familiar to the reader.

ruṣṭas tuṣṭo veti jñātuṁ na śakto śakyo nābhūt ||
ruṣṭaḥ tuṣṭaḥ vā itithe words 'whether angry or pleased' Jīva quotes the verse's phrase to gloss it'रुष्ट अथवा तुष्ट' इस पद को — जीव श्लोक का यही अंश उद्धृत करके उसकी व्याख्या करते हैं
jñātum na śaktaḥ'was not able [to know]' — the verse's wordingजानने में समर्थ नहीं
śakyaḥ na abhūtmeans: it did not become possible [to know] the key move — Jīva re-reads active śaktaḥ as passive śakyaḥ, turning 'was not able to know' into 'could not be known'शक्य न हुआ — यही मूल मोड़ है: जीव कर्तृवाच्य 'शक्तः' को कर्मवाच्य 'शक्यः' पढ़ते हैं, जिससे 'जान न सका' बदलकर 'जाना न जा सका' हो जाता है
ruṣṭaḥ tuṣṭaḥ vā iti jñātum na śaktaḥ = śakyaḥ na abhūt — 'not able to know whether angry or pleased' is to be taken as 'it could not be known'.
Jīva flips the grammar: read śaktaḥ ('was not able') as śakyaḥ ('was not able-to-be'). So the line does not mean Hari failed to know — it means Hari could not be figured out, whether angry or pleased. That undiscernibility is exactly his gambhīratā.
