śaṅkha-cakrāṅkita-tanuḥ śirasā mañjarī-dharaḥ |
śaṅkha-cakra-aṅkita-tanuḥwhose body is marked with the conch and disc bahuvrīhi describing the personजिसका शरीर शंख और चक्र (के चिह्नों) से अंकित है
śirasāon his head instrumental of location/meansसिर पर
mañjarī-dharaḥwearing a tulasī bud nom.; 'holding a mañjarī'जो (तुलसी की) मंजरी धारण किए हुए है
śaṅkha-cakra-aṅkita-tanuḥ — whose body is stamped with the conch and disc; śirasā mañjarī-dharaḥ — bearing a tulasī bud on his head
This describes a devotee of Viṣṇu. His body is stamped with the marks of the conch and disc. On his head he wears a tulasī bud.
Why cited: First of four scriptural verses (from the Skānda Purāṇa) adduced to prove that the Lord's devotee is glorious — even the mere sight of such a devotee removes sin.
mañjarī: literally a flower cluster or bud; here specifically a bud of tulasī, the plant sacred to Viṣṇu, worn as a mark of devotion.

gopī-candana-liptāṅgo dṛṣtaś cet tad-aghaṁ kutaḥ ||
gopī-candana-lipta-aṅgaḥhis limbs smeared with gopī-candana (the sacred clay) bahuvrīhiजिसके अंग गोपी-चन्दन से लिपे हुए हैं
dṛṣṭaḥif he is seen nom. past participle, predicateदेखा गया / (यदि) दिख जाए
cetif — sets the condition conditional particleयदि
tad-aghamthen the sin of the one who sees 'his sin' — the beholder'sउसका (अर्थात् देखनेवाले का) पाप
kutaḥhow could it remain? — it cannot interrogative, rhetoricalकहाँ (रहेगा)?
gopī-candana-lipta-aṅgaḥ — his limbs smeared with gopī-candana; dṛṣṭaḥ cet — if such a one is seen; tad-agham kutaḥ — where then is that person's sin?
His limbs are smeared with gopī-candana, the sacred clay. If a person merely sees such a devotee, then where can that person's sin remain? It cannot. The rhetorical question means the sin is gone at once.
Why cited: Completes the Skānda verse: the very sight of the Lord's devotee destroys the beholder's sin — proof of the devotee's purifying power.
gopī-candana: a pale sacred clay used by Vaiṣṇavas for tilaka body-markings; 'candana' normally means sandalwood paste, but this is a named clay, not sandalwood.

yeṣām saṁsmaraṇāt — because of remembering whom (the devotees); puṁsām gṛhāḥ — the homes of people; sadyaḥ vai śuddhyanti — become pure at once, surely
Take these devotees. Just by remembering them, people's very homes are purified. And this happens at once. The 'vai' stresses that it is certain.
Why cited: Second verse: even remembering the devotees instantly purifies one's household — sets up the a fortiori argument completed in the next line.

darśana-sparśa-pāda-śauca-āsana-ādibhiḥby seeing them, touching them, washing their feet, offering them a seat, and so on instrumental pl. of meansदर्शन, स्पर्श, चरण-धोने, आसन देने आदि के द्वारा
kim punaḥ — how much more, then; darśana-sparśa-pāda-śauca-āsana-ādibhiḥ — by seeing, touching, washing the feet, offering a seat, and the rest
If remembering them already purifies the home, how much more is done by seeing them, touching them, washing their feet, giving them a seat, and other such service! The 'kim punaḥ' makes the point by degree: the greater acts do far more than mere remembrance.
Why cited: Completes the second verse by the 'how much more' (kim punaḥ) argument: if remembrance alone purifies, direct service to the devotee does far more.
pāda-śauca: the washing of a guest's or teacher's feet, a standard act of honor in the reception of a worthy person (atithi-satkāra).

me bhakta-janāḥare My devotees 'me' = of Me, genitiveमेरे भक्तजन (हैं)
pārthaO Pārtha (Arjuna) vocative — the Lord is the speakerहे पार्थ (भगवान् बोल रहे हैं)
na me bhaktāḥare not [truly] My devotees predicate; 'na' negates(वे) मेरे भक्त नहीं (हैं)
te janāḥthose people nom. pl.
ye me bhakta-janāḥ — those people who are My devotees; pārtha — O Arjuna; te janāḥ ca na me bhaktāḥ — those people are nevertheless not [counted] My [true] devotees
ye me bhakta-janāḥ — जो (केवल) मेरे भक्तजन हैं; pārtha — हे पार्थ; te janāḥ — वे लोग; ca — तो भी; na me bhaktāḥ — मेरे (सच्चे) भक्त नहीं।
The Lord is speaking to Arjuna. He says: there are people who are devoted to Me. And yet, Arjuna, those people are not [reckoned the highest of] My devotees. The verse withholds the top rank from those who worship the Lord alone — the reason follows in the next line.
Why cited: Third verse (the Lord's own words to Arjuna): begins the graded ranking of devotees, setting up that devotion to the Lord alone is not the highest grade.

mad-bhaktānām ca ye bhaktāḥ — but those who are devotees of My devotees; te me bhaktatamāḥ matāḥ — they are held by Me to be the very best of devotees
But those who are devoted to My devotees — they are the ones I consider the very best of devotees. The superlative 'bhaktatamāḥ' ranks them highest. So devotion aimed at the Lord's devotee outranks devotion aimed at the Lord alone.
Why cited: Completes the third verse: the Lord Himself declares that devotees of His devotees are the highest — direct scriptural proof of the theme of this whole section.

However many limbs, that is, practices, of devotion to the Lord have been described here — take that whole number. The 'yāvanti' sets up a matching count answered in the next line.
Why cited: Fourth verse (the concluding proof): counts up the limbs of devotion to the Lord so the next line can match them one-for-one for devotion to His devotee.
aṅga: literally 'limb'; here a component practice or branch of devotional service (as in the sixty-four aṅgas of bhakti), not a body-part.

The wise know that devotion to the Lord's devotee has, for the most part, just as many limbs as devotion to the Lord Himself. The 'api' extends the same count to this second case. The 'prāyaḥ' — 'for the most part' — is a careful qualification: nearly all the limbs carry over, not necessarily every single one.
Why cited: The clinching verse of the set: the wise hold that devotion to the devotee has essentially the same limbs as devotion to the Lord — closing the argument that serving the devotee is a full form of bhakti.
