gati-jitā tayāby her, the one who beat [the elephant] by her walk instr. tayā is the agent of the passive hṛtaṁ; gati-jitā describes herअपनी चाल से (गज को) जीतनेवाली उस (राधा) के द्वारा
hṛtaṁwas carried off, seized n. sg., agreeing with 'the pair (yugam)' in L2(वह युगल) हर लिया गया (छीन लिया गया)
na kucāv imau — these two are not breasts; tayā gati-jitā — by her who beat [the elephant] by her gait; hṛtaṁ — was seized [the pair — from L2].
'These are not breasts, my friend.' Śyāmalā teases: the pair was carried off by the one who out-walked the elephant. Which pair, and from where — the next line says.
An udāharaṇa of nakha-kṣata, the 'nail-scratch' — one of the anubhāvas (signs of love); the lead-in reads 'atha nakha-kṣatam, yathā—'. The whole verse is a śleṣa: on the surface an elephant's temple-globes, underneath the nail-marks on Rādhā's breasts.

sakhi — O friend; gajataḥ — from the elephant; prasahya — by force; kumbhayor yugam — [she seized] the pair of its temple-globes.
By force she took, from the elephant itself, the pair of its two frontal temple-globes (kumbha). That, Śyāmalā jokes, is what these 'breasts' really are.

yad arpayatin that he placed, gave [it] yad … (tat) — 'the fact that…'; correlates with the understood predicate in L4जो (यह कि उसने) लगाया / अर्पित किया
atra — here; nāga-damano — the elephant-tamer / Kṛṣṇa; kṣatam yad arpayat — in that he gave a wound.
And here the nāga-damana gave them a wound. Read one way, that is the mahout wounding the elephant; read the other way, it is Kṛṣṇa, tamer of the serpent Kāliya. 'Nāga' carries both.

He gave it with the choice goad — of Kāma, meaning his nail; or, on the surface, the elephant-goad — at that very moment, so that it be perfect. That it fell out so is entirely fitting; the predicate 'fitting' is the word the commentators fill in.

nāga-damano’tra kāliya-mardī paraṁ yathā syāt tathāṅgajāṅkuśākhyena nakhena kṣatam arpayet |
nāga-damano’tra'nāga-damana' here [in the verse]यहाँ 'नागदमन' का अर्थ है —
kāliya-mardīmeans the crusher of Kāliya — Kṛṣṇaकालिय का मर्दन करनेवाला (कृष्ण)
paraṁ yathā syāt tathāin such a way that it be utmost, perfect unpacks the verse's bare 'param' as 'yathā param syāt tathā''परम्' अर्थात् 'जिससे परम (उत्कृष्ट) हो, उस रीति से'
aṅgajāṅkuśa-ākhyena nakhenawith the nail, which bears the name 'goad of Kāma (aṅgaja)'अंगजांकुश नामक नख के द्वारा
kṣatam arpayethe gives the scratch-woundक्षत लगावे (अर्पित करे)
atra nāga-damano — here 'nāga-damana'; kāliya-mardī — is the Kāliya-crusher, Kṛṣṇa; aṅgajāṅkuśa-ākhyena nakhena — with the nail called 'Kāma's goad'; paraṁ yathā syāt tathā — so that it be perfect; kṣatam arpayet — he gives the scratch.
Jīva takes the primary reading. 'Nāga-damana' is Kṛṣṇa, the crusher of Kāliya. 'Aṅgajāṅkuśa' names the nail — Kāma's goad. With it, so that everything be perfectly fitting, he gives the nail-scratch.

yat tat kṣamaṁ yuktaṁ pakṣe nāga-damano mahā-mātraḥ |
yat tatthe verse's 'yad … (tat)' — 'the fact that he gave it'जो वह (क्षत लगाया)
kṣamaṁ yuktaṁ[means] is fitting, is proper — the unspoken predicate supplies the elided predicate of the sentence'क्षम' अर्थात् युक्त / उचित — (यह वाक्य का अनुक्त क्रिया-पद है)
pakṣein the other reading [of the pun] pakṣe flags the śleṣa's second layer(दूसरे) पक्ष में — (श्लेष का दूसरा स्तर)
nāga-damano mahā-mātraḥ'nāga-damana' [there] is the mahout, the elephant-driver'नागदमन' अर्थात् महामात्र (गजपाल, महावत)
yat tat — the 'that he gave it'; kṣamaṁ yuktaṁ — is fitting, proper; pakṣe — in the alternate reading; nāga-damano mahā-mātraḥ — 'nāga-damana' is the mahout.
First Jīva fills the gap: 'that he gave it' is fitting, proper. Then he turns to the other layer of the pun — in that reading 'nāga-damana' is the mahout, the man who drives the elephant. The two readings stand together; this is not a suspended alternative but the śleṣa's second face.
This is the elephant-side of the śleṣa, held alongside the Kṛṣṇa reading, not in place of it.

To match, the same word 'aṅgajāṅkuśa-vara' is re-split as 'gajāṅkuśa-vara' — the choice elephant-goad. So in the surface reading the mahout wounds the elephant's temples with his goad, and the rest of the verse follows suit.

Viśvanātha sets the scene: Śyāmalā, describing Rādhā, is teasing her — and she speaks this 'gati-jitā' verse. The joke is that the nail-marks on Rādhā's breasts are being called an elephant's goad-wounds.
Śyāmalā is another gopī-heroine; the tease bites because nail-marks are tell-tale signs of a tryst.

Viśvanātha glosses 'gati-jitā': by her own graceful walk she out-did, defeated, the elephant — her gait beats even the elephant's proverbial gait, so she could take its temple-globes.

ata eva — precisely therefore; nāga-damanaḥ — 'nāga-damana'; kāliya-mardanaḥ — is the Kāliya-crusher, Kṛṣṇa.
And just so, 'nāga-damana' is Kṛṣṇa, who crushed the serpent Kāliya. 'Nāga' means both elephant and serpent — the surface hears the elephant-tamer, the real reading hears the serpent-tamer, Kṛṣṇa.
