A sulk born of a real cause can be quelled. It is brought to rest by the seven means named next, each applied as the case calls for.
जो मान किसी कारण से उपजा है, वह शान्त हो जाता है। 'तु' शब्द इसे उस निष्कारण मान से अलग करता है जिसकी चर्चा अभी हुई थी। इसके लिए परिस्थिति के अनुसार उचित उपाय काम में लाए जाते हैं।
Rūpa has just distinguished māna born of a cause (hetuja) from the causeless kind (nirhetuka / niṣkāraṇa); the 'tu' marks the turn to how the cause-born sort is pacified.

The list refashions the classical statecraft upāyas — sāma, dāna, bheda, daṇḍa ('coax, gift, divide, force') — for the quarrel of lovers, here extended to seven with nati, upekṣā, and rasāntara.
यह सूची राजनीति के प्रसिद्ध उपायों — साम, दान, भेद, दण्ड (मीठी बात, उपहार, फूट डालना, बल) — को प्रेमियों के रूठने-मनाने के लिए ढाल देती है, और यहाँ नति, उपेक्षा तथा रसान्तर जोड़कर इन्हें सात कर दिया गया है।

मान के शान्त होने के चिह्न होते हैं — आँसू बहना, मुसकान आना आदि। अंक वह लक्षण है जिससे भीतर की छिपी दशा बाहर झलक जाती है। 'आदि' शब्द बताता है कि ऐसे और भी चिह्न हैं।
An aṅka is a sign that lets you read a hidden inner state; here the melting of the māna, which is inward, betrays itself through these outward signs.
अंक वह संकेत है जिससे भीतर की छिपी दशा पढ़ी जा सके; यहाँ मान का पिघलना, जो भीतरी बात है, इन बाहरी चिह्नों से स्वयं प्रकट हो जाता है।
