sahacari parigumphya prātar evārpitāsīd
sahacariO friend — she calls out to her companion vocative; Viśvanātha (s2) names the friend as Padmāहे सखी!
parigumphyahaving strung [the necklace] together absolutive; the doer is 'I' (mayā, L2)(मैंने) भली-भाँति गूँथकर
prātar evathis very morning — eva pinning down the exact early hour eva: 'the very', not just 'in the morning'प्रातःकाल ही ('eva' से—ठीक प्रातःकाल में, केवल प्रातःकाल नहीं)
arpitā āsīt[the necklace] had been placed / offered [on his neck]अर्पित कर दी थी
sahacari — O friend; parigumphya — having strung [it] together; prātar eva — this very morning; arpitā āsīt — it was placed [on his neck].
O friend! I strung this necklace together and, this very morning, set it [on his neck].
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) spoken by Candrāvalī to her friend Padmā — a second example (the lead-in is 'yathā vā', 'or again, as here') of the jealousy roused when a woman sees the beloved favor her rival. Here Candrāvalī sees the very guñjā-necklace she gave Kṛṣṇa now worn by her rival Lalitā. Speaker and situation are named by Viśvanātha (s1-s2).

vraja-pati-suta-kaṇṭhe yā mayotkaṇṭhayādya |
vraja-pati-suta-kaṇṭheonto the neck of Vraja's lord's son — that is, onto Kṛṣṇa's neck locative, goal of arpitā (L1); vraja-pati-suta = Nanda's son, Kṛṣṇaव्रजपति (नन्द) के पुत्र कृष्ण के गले में (अर्पिता का लक्ष्य)
yāwhich [necklace] — relative picking up 'that guñjāvalī' (L4)जो (माला)
mayāby me — I am the one who strung and offered it instrumental agent of parigumphya / arpitāमेरे द्वारा (गूँथने और अर्पण करने वाली मैं ही)
utkaṇṭhayāout of longing — because I yearned [to please him] instrumental of cause; note the echo kaṇṭha ('neck') / ut-kaṇṭhā ('longing', lit.
adyatoday — set against 'this morning', it is now that she sees it on Lalitāआज
yā — which [necklace]; mayā — I; utkaṇṭhayā — out of longing; vraja-pati-suta-kaṇṭhe — onto Kṛṣṇa's neck [placed, from L1]; adya — today.
The necklace I, out of longing, [strung and] laid on Kṛṣṇa's neck — today [I see where it has gone].
A sound-play runs through the line: the necklace goes on his kaṇṭha (neck), placed there out of ut-kaṇṭhā (longing) — literally 'neck stretched up' in yearning.

hṛdi lalitāyāḥon Lalitā's heart / chest locative of place; Lalitā is the rivalललिता (प्रतिपक्षिणी) की छाती पर
tasthuṣīhaving come to rest / standing [there] perfect (liṭ) active participle — the tense of the unwitnessed past; both commentators pivot on this word(पहले से) स्थित हुई—लिट् (परोक्ष-भूत) कृदन्त, जो बिना देखे बीते हुए को सूचित करता है
hantaalas! — a cry of griefहाय!
hṛt memy [own] heart — the thing being scorched (object of 'burns', L4)मेरा हृदय
adya api — even today; lalitāyāḥ hṛdi — on Lalitā's chest; tasthuṣī — [it] having come to rest; hanta — alas; me hṛt — my heart.
Today it rests even on Lalitā's chest — alas, [and] my own heart...
The perfect participle tasthuṣī is the hinge of the commentary: the perfect tense in Sanskrit marks a past the speaker did not directly witness, which is exactly what Jīva (s1) and Viśvanātha (s3-s5) read into it.

paśyalook! — she points it out to Padmāदेख

Look — that guñjā-necklace, glowing like fire, burns my heart!
The image: guñjā-berries are bright red, so the necklace's radiance (dīpti) is figured as fire's blaze (dahana) — and it 'burns' her not with real fire but with jealousy (Viśvanātha spells this out at s8).

parokṣātītatvamits being a bygone thing she did not witness — the placing lay out of her sight parokṣa 'out of the eye' + atīta 'past'; the perfect tense grammatically carries thisपरोक्ष-अतीतत्व (आँखों से ओझल बीते हुए का भाव—'parokṣa' अर्थात् दृष्टि से परे, 'atīta' अर्थात् बीता हुआ), जिसे लिट् व्याकरण से वहन करता है
tasthuṣī iti — by the word 'tasthuṣī'; īrṣyayā — through her jealousy; parokṣātītatvam — that it was a bygone, unwitnessed thing; darśitam — is shown.
Jīva: by choosing the perfect-tense word tasthuṣī the poet shows — through her jealousy — that the necklace's coming-to-rest on Lalitā was a past event she did not actually see.
Jīva grounds the 'unwitnessed-past' force of tasthuṣī in her īrṣyā (jealousy). Viśvanātha (s3-s5) will accept the same reading of the word but ground it differently, in the morning timeline — the decode keeps the two accounts side by side, unmerged.

Viśvanātha: the previous verse illustrated a woman seeing her rival singled out for favor by the beloved. Now, to illustrate her seeing even what belongs to the rival's side, Rūpa Gosvāmī gives a fresh example, opening with 'yathā vā' — 'or again, as here'.

Viśvanātha sets the scene: Candrāvalī, catching sight of Lalitā in the distance, pours out her heart's pain to her friend Padmā — and this is what the verse 'sahacari...' voices. So the 'O friend' of the first line is Padmā.

Viśvanātha: the 'eva' in 'this very morning' does extra work — it lets us understand that the necklace came to rest on Lalitā's chest also that very morning, not only that it was put on Kṛṣṇa in the morning.

ata eva — precisely therefore; tasthuṣī iti parokṣātītatvam — the 'unwitnessed-past' sense of tasthuṣī; susaṅgam eva — fits perfectly.
So — Viśvanātha concludes — the 'unwitnessed-past' force of tasthuṣī sits perfectly here.
Same word, different ground: where Jīva (s1) tied tasthuṣī's unwitnessed-past sense to her jealousy, Viśvanātha derives it from the timeline (the necklace changed necks that morning, and she sees the result only now, from afar). The two readings are left standing side by side.
s5reply
lalitāyāḥ saṅgama-samaya eva tathā dūre dṛśyamānatvāt |
lalitāyāḥ saṅgama-samaye evaat the very time of [Lalitā's] tryst [with Kṛṣṇa] eva: at that very moment — locative of timeललिता के संगम-समय पर ही ('eva'—ठीक उसी समय; समय की सप्तमी)
tathā dūre dṛśyamānatvātbecause [Lalitā] is being seen, so, [only] at a distance ablative of cause (-tvāt); dūre = far off, so the sight is indistinct, not a direct witnessingऔर वैसे दूर से ही दिखाई देने के कारण (-tvāt से हेतु; दूर होने से दृश्य अस्पष्ट है, साक्षात् देखना नहीं)
lalitāyāḥ saṅgama-samaye eva — at the very time of Lalitā's tryst; tathā dūre dṛśyamānatvāt — because she is seen only from afar.
And this is why it still counts as unwitnessed: Candrāvalī glimpses Lalitā only from far off, at the very hour of her tryst with Kṛṣṇa — so even now she does not truly see it happen, she infers it.
Reads as the answer to an unspoken objection — 'if she sees the necklace on Lalitā now, how can it be an unwitnessed thing?' Viśvanātha's reply: she sees only from a distance, at Lalitā's tryst-time, so it remains something inferred, not directly witnessed.

Viśvanātha spells out her inner cry: 'This very morning I laid the guñjā-necklace on Kṛṣṇa's neck; the moment I had turned away, that same instant, Kṛṣṇa slipped it onto Lalitā's neck. Alas, alas! He would not keep it on his own neck even a moment. How can I bear it?' So, Viśvanātha stresses, her fierce jealousy is aimed at Kṛṣṇa alone — not at Lalitā.
The interpretive heart of the passage: the excess of īrṣyā is directed at Kṛṣṇa (who could not keep her gift even a moment before passing it on), not at the rival Lalitā.

tataś ca — and then; daiva-hatayā mayā — by luckless me; adya — today; svaṁ santāpayitum — only to scorch myself; katham guñjāvalī gumphitā — why was the necklace ever strung; iti āha — thus he says; dahati iti ādi — the line 'dahati...'.
Then, introducing the closing line, Viśvanātha voices her next thought: 'Fate-cursed as I am, why did I ever string this necklace today — only to scorch myself?' — and so the verse runs on with 'dahati...', 'it burns...'.

akāraṇāt kāraṇābhāvāt ||
akāraṇāt'causelessly / for no reason' [it burns]'akāraṇāt' (बिना कारण के)
kāraṇa-abhāvāt= because there is no [real] cause ablative gloss (-āt = -āt): unpacks a-kāraṇāt as 'from the absence of a cause'अर्थात् कारण के अभाव से (-āt का -āt से गलोस; 'a-kāraṇāt' को 'कारण के अभाव से' खोलकर बताया)
akāraṇāt — 'causelessly'; kāraṇa-abhāvāt — [means] because there is no cause.
Viśvanātha glosses 'causelessly' as 'because there is no [real] cause' — she strung it to no purpose, and now the necklace burns her though there is no actual fire behind it.
The word akāraṇāt does not stand in our mūla text; Viśvanātha supplies and glosses it to bring out the conceit — the guñjā only looks like flame (dahana-dīptiḥ, L4), so it scorches her with no fire, i.e. with jealousy alone.

A cross-reference number '(90)' standing in the commentary flow; it is not part of Viśvanātha's wording and carries no decodable Sanskrit.
(90)
Structural marker only (a serial/cross-reference tag), the same number that closes Jīva's note (s2). Retained here because it is a listed atom, but it holds no lexical content to construe.
