L1definition
vyavasāyo’bhilāṣaḥ syāt priya-saṅgama-lipsayā |
vyavasāyaḥa firm resolve, a settled determinationदृढ़ संकल्प (उद्यम, कमर कसना)
abhilāṣaḥis what is called abhilāṣa, 'longing'(वही) अभिलाष है
syātwould be — the defining 'is' optative marking a lakṣaṇaहोता है (यही इसका लक्षण है)
priya-saṅgama-lipsayābecause of the craving to be united with the beloved instrumental of cause; lipsā = the eager wishक्योंकि प्रियतम के मिलन की उत्कट लालसा से (वह उठता है)
abhilāṣaḥ — the longing called abhilāṣa; syāt — is; vyavasāyaḥ — a firm resolve; priya-saṅgama-lipsayā — driven by the craving for union with the beloved.
abhilāṣa, 'longing', is a firm inner resolve. It springs from the craving to be united with the beloved. That craving is what hardens a mere wish into a settled determination.
The lakṣaṇa (definition) of abhilāṣa, which the following verse (L3–L6) then illustrates.

sva-maṇḍanāntika-prāpti-rāga-prakaṭanādi-kṛt ||
antika-prāpti-getting near to the beloved(प्रियतम के) निकट पहुँचना
rāga-prakaṭana-letting one's passion show openlyअपने अनुराग को प्रकट करना
ādi-and the likeआदि (इन जैसी बातें)
kṛtwhich brings about — this longing produces these acts -kṛt = 'doer, producer', agreeing with abhilāṣaḥ(इन सबको) करानेवाला होता है — यह अभिलाष का काम है
kṛt — [abhilāṣa is] the producer of; sva-maṇḍana — self-adornment; antika-prāpti — drawing near the beloved; rāga-prakaṭana — displaying passion; ādi — and so on.
This longing shows itself in action. It makes one dress up, contrive ways to get close to the beloved, let one's love become visible, and so on. These outward acts are the anubhāvas — the signs by which longing is recognized.

A sharp friend is teasing Satyabhāmā. 'Listen, you sly thing,' she begins. 'Since you now give it out that you are off to see your friend Subhadrā…' She names the friendship as the excuse Satyabhāmā is putting forward.
The first line of an udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of abhilāṣa, the longing defined just above in 15.50. Per Viśvanātha, a sharp-witted sakhī speaks it to Satyabhāmā with hidden intent.

pituḥ agārāt — from your father's house; devekī-mandirāya — to Devakī's house; vrajasi — you set off.
'…and so you leave your own father's house and travel all the way to Devakī's home.' The friend marks the destination — a good deal of trouble, supposedly just for a visit.

'And oh, Satyā — the trouble you are taking over your looks!' The friend points to the second tell-tale sign: the elaborate dressing-up. This is exactly the sva-maṇḍana of the definition — adornment as the outward sign of longing.

'So it is plain — some hidden thing has been born inside you today.' Here the tease lands. The journey and the finery betray a secret that was not there before. That secret 'something' is the abhilāṣa itself: the friend names the mood by pointedly refusing to name it.

Viśvanātha sets the scene. A sharp-witted friend speaks to Satyabhāmā — and speaks with a hidden edge, every line carrying a second sense. Then he points to the verse: 'yad iha…'.
sakūṭam ('with concealed intent') flags that the sakhī's speech is double-layered: on the surface an idle remark, underneath a knowing exposure of Satyabhāmā's longing.
