L1definition
vaiyāgryaṁ bhāva-gāmbhīrya-vikṣobhāsahatocyate |
vaiyāgryaṁvaiyāgrya (flustered distraction) — the term now being definedवैयाग्र्य (व्याकुलता) —
bhāva-gāmbhīrya-vikṣobha-asahatāis the inability to bear the agitation stirred up by the depth of one's emotion predicate compound: [depth-of-bhāva] → [its agitation] → [inability to endure that agitation]भाव की गम्भीरता से जो क्षोभ उठता है, उसे सह न पाना
ucyateis said to be— (इसी को ऐसा) कहा जाता है
vaiyāgryaṁ — vaiyāgrya; ucyate — is said to be; bhāva-gāmbhīrya-vikṣobha-asahatā — the inability to bear the agitation born of the depth of emotion.
Vaiyāgrya is defined this way: one's emotion runs so deep that it throws up an agitation the heart simply cannot hold. That failure to bear it is vaiyāgrya.
vaiyāgrya — literally a flurried, scattered state; here a division treated in the śṛṅgāra-bheda. The compound stacks three steps: depth of bhāva → agitation from that depth → inability to endure it.

matāḥare held [by the authorities to arise]माने गए हैं
tatra — in that flurry; aviveka-nirveda-kheda-asūyā-ādayaḥ — aviveka, nirveda, kheda, asūyā, and so on; matāḥ — are held to occur.
And within that flurry, the authorities count feelings like these: loss of discrimination, despondency, distress, resentment, and others of the same kind.
These are the passing feelings (vyabhicāri-bhāvas) that swarm up inside vaiyāgrya; the list is left open with -ādayaḥ, 'and the like'.

The yogī-sage, pulling his mind back from the objects of sense for even a moment, longs to fix it on that One (Kṛṣṇa) —
The opening line of an udāharaṇa illustrating vaiyāgrya, the state just defined at 15.36. Viśvanātha identifies the speaker as Paurṇamāsī, addressing Nāndīmukhī about Rādhā; the 'muni' he glosses as a yogī inclined to bhakti.

— but this young girl does the very reverse: she drags her mind back from him and longs to fasten it on the objects of sense!
The mirror is exact: the sage withdraws FROM sense-objects TO Kṛṣṇa; she withdraws FROM Kṛṣṇa TO sense-objects — same verb (dhitsate / dhitsati), opposite aim.

For a single spark of that One flashing up within the heart, the yogī aches with longing — ah! —

sphūrti — a sudden inner flashing-forth of the beloved's presence; -lava is 'a mere shred' of it. Even that shred is the yogī's whole craving.

— yet look! this dazed girl, of all things, is craving his exit out of her own heart! The yogī begs for a spark of him; she begs to be rid of him — that unbearable over-fullness is the vaiyāgrya.
kila carries the wonder of the whole verse: the very presence every yogī strains for is what she, overwhelmed, wants gone.

Viśvanātha takes the mūla's compound apart. The 'depth' of the emotion means it is bottomless — you can never touch its floor. That depth throws up an agitation; and being unable to endure that agitation is exactly what vaiyāgrya names.
atala-sparśatā, 'not-touching-the-bottom', is his homely image for gāmbhīrya: like water so deep the foot finds no floor.

In the eight-limbed yoga, pratyāhāra — reining the senses in — is the fifth limb. Since the verse uses that exact word ('pratyāhṛtya'), the 'muni' here is an eight-limbed yogī — and one already inclined toward bhakti.
The gloss reads the word-choice as deliberate: the poet did not say 'ascetic' loosely but marked the fifth yoga-limb, so the sage is a yogī of that stamp.
