Here is the difference. Vaicittya-vipralambha imagines a separation that isn't real and can't bear it. Nimeṣāsahatva takes a real but minute separation and feels it as vast — it does not invent one. Put that way, the blink-case looks no more marvelous than the anurāga case. Having raised exactly this doubt, Jīva answers it with the Bhāgavata verse, 'gopyaś ca …'.

Here 'the maker of lashes' means Brahmā the creator. Jīva cross-reads it with 9.24.65 — 'the women and men grew joyful, and angry at the blink.' In that verse, he says, the men and women as a general crowd only became joyful.
Why cited: BhP 9.24.65 is brought to read the cursing correctly: in that scene the crowd of women and men were merely joyful — leaving the anger 'at the blink' to be assigned in the next sentence.

Why not read the anger as everyone's? Because then the verse's phrase 'at whose sight' would single out nothing — and the gopīs' distinctive love would be left with no work to do. So the curse must be theirs alone.

'Taken into the heart' means they felt him vividly placed there. 'Embracing' means feeling him as if truly embraced — inwardly. And 'that' state they reached is a movement of mahā-bhāva. On this reading, 'tad-bhāvam' is love for him, not merger into him.

One could read 'ever-united' as the yogīs (ever in yoga). Jīva forbids it: that throws away the nearer, natural referent — the queens — for a strained one. Keep the queens. (Note that Viśvanātha will take exactly the yogī sense under his alternative reading — the two ācāryas diverge here.)

He backs 'hard to attain' with Uddhava's word (10.47.58): even sages who dread rebirth, and Uddhava himself, only long for the gopīs' love. Even the gopīs' earlier love is beyond such seekers — so this fuller state is all the more so.

These signs — blink-intolerance and the rest — surface only when the moment draws them out. Even so they are true defining marks. Compare 11.2.43, which defines the topmost devotee as 'one who sees the Lord in all beings' — a mark that likewise shows itself only on occasion.
Why cited: Adduced as a parallel: a genuine defining mark (lakṣaṇa) need not be on constant display — like the topmost-devotee's mark in 11.2.43, it can be real yet appear only as the occasion arises.

ārṣa = a usage licensed to the ancient ṛṣis (as in the Vedic idiom): a form the ordinary rules would not give. Here it just accounts for the metrically long ī where one expects hṛdi-kṛtam.

The merging born of love's swoon far outstrips the merging born of dry knowledge — both in the kind of joy and in its amount. Viśvanātha reads a sidelong dig here at the jñānīs sitting in King Parīkṣit's assembly.

iti tāsām asādhāraṇaṁ lakṣaṇam āhato give their one-of-a-kind mark he says — asādhāraṇa = shared by no one elseऐसा (पूछने पर) उनका असाधारण (और किसी में न पाया जानेवाला) लक्षण कहते हैं

nanu kā gopyaḥ — who are the gopīs?; tāsām asādhāraṇaṁ lakṣaṇam āha — he gives their unique mark; yat-prekṣaṇe … pakṣma-kṛtaṁ brahmāṇaṁ śapanti — at his sight they curse Brahmā the lash-maker; atisūkṣma-… virahasya api tathā-asahyatvam — the blink-brief parting is that unbearable; … are brahman … mriyasva — 'O Brahmā, die!'; anyaḥ … brahmā bhavatu … — 'let another Brahmā come who makes no lashes.'
Objection: who exactly are these gopīs? He answers by giving their unique mark. Even a parting no longer than a blink — so slight it can barely be noticed — is unbearable to them. These women, otherwise the most patient of all and devoted to their Lord alone, actually curse Brahmā: 'O Brahmā, you who deal out such misery — die, and quickly! Let some other Brahmā come, one who makes no eyelashes for us.'

yat tu yasya-ānanaṁ … nāryo narāś ca muditāḥ kupitā nimeḥ ca iti uktam — as for the line 'women and men, joyful and angry at the blink' (9.24.65); tatra nāryaḥ gopyaḥ eva, narāḥ ca priya-narma-sakhāḥ subala-ādayaḥ eva jñeyāḥ — there the women are the gopīs, the men the intimate friends led by Subala.
As for the cited line (9.24.65), 'the women and men grew joyful, and angry at the blink' — here, says Viśvanātha, the 'women' are the gopīs and none else, and the 'men' are the intimate confidant-friends, Subala and the rest. (Jīva at his s6–s7 read the same line differently — a general crowd joyful, only some women angered; the two readings are left standing.)
Why cited: BhP 9.24.65 is taken up to fix who feels the blink-intolerance: Viśvanātha assigns the 'women' to the gopīs alone and the 'men' to Kṛṣṇa's priya-narma-sakhās led by Subala.
