A second udāharaṇa, opened by the lead-in 'yathā vā' ('or again, as here'). The included commentators read it as an illustration of the heroine's vāmya (contrariness) / antar-adākṣiṇya (hidden inner non-compliance): Jīva finds in it only a trace (gandha) of vāmya, while Viśvanātha reads it as mostly dākṣiṇya (compliance) with a hidden non-compliance surfacing at the one word 'vipratipannā.' The two verdicts are not reconciled.

Jīva: He did not write 'with both hands.' He wrote 'with one hand,' singular. That single hand lets just a whiff of vāmya show — the heroine's contrariness. Both hands would be real resistance; one hand is only a hint of it.
vāmya = the heroine's crookedness or contrariness in love, a temperament; gandha, 'scent,' marks it as a bare trace, not full-blown resistance. (Contrast Viśvanātha below, who reads the same single hand the opposite way, as compliance.)

dākṣiṇya = obliging compliance, the heroine's willing agreeableness; adākṣiṇya = its opposite, non-compliance; antar- = inner, held inside rather than shown. The whole comment turns on how much of each this verse carries.

Viśvanātha names the scene: a friend of Candrāvalī is speaking to another woman. 'Won by Mādhava in the dice-hall — the stake was an embrace — and still frowning': so far this is only vāmya on the surface, an outward whiff of contrariness.

Viśvanātha grants a point: even with both hands a heroine cannot truly stop the hero. Still, using both would at least establish avahitthā — the show of hiding her feelings behind a pretense of resistance.
avahitthā = one of the 33 fleeting moods (vyabhicāri-bhāva): concealing one's real emotion — here, feigned resistance masking her real willingness.

But block with just one hand, and even that avahitthā does not fully come off. So, Viśvanātha concludes, it is plainly dākṣiṇya — she is really willing.

The verse runs on a śleṣa on suvarṇa — at once 'fine-sounding syllables' and 'gold.' 'Your words are right on the mark, O startled-fawn-eyed one — for their suvarṇa is an ornament that sweetens your ears.' 'And this shedding of suvarṇa, from within your moon-face and outside it, throws both my ears and my eyes into turmoil' — the syllables bewitch the ears, the golden gleam the eyes. So even sharp, contrary speech becomes something to relish: inner non-compliance shown plainly, out in the open.
Why cited: Adduced by Viśvanātha as the example of inner non-compliance shown MANIFESTLY (spaṣṭa antar-adākṣiṇya) — Vidagdha-mādhava 4.10 — set against the present verse, where that non-compliance stays merely hidden and only 'vipratipannā' betrays it.
