An udāharaṇa in the Sthāyi-bhāva chapter (prakaraṇa 14), spoken in Rādhā's voice. It illustrates that the abiding love (prema, the sthāyi-bhāva) endures even when a cause that ought to destroy it is present — so Viśvanātha reads it at s7–s8 (see un.14.64.c2-visvanatha.s7).

Take 'viśuddhām' (spotless) from the second line and join it to 'dharma-sthitim' (propriety) in the first: 'a spotless propriety.' That, Jīva says, is how the words construe.

To put Rādhā's love to the test, Nāndīmukhī keeps frightening her with talk of social duty and all the rest. Rādhā — still in pūrva-rāga, the love that comes before the lovers have even met — answers her with this verse, 'śape.' So Viśvanātha sets the scene.
