An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) quoted from Vidagdha-mādhava 3.4. Viśvanātha reads it as showing that the sañcāri-bhāvas (transient emotions of this prakaraṇa) are to be illustrated in the nāyaka Kṛṣṇa, not only in the heroines — here Kṛṣṇa lost in longing meditation during pūrva-rāga, observed and wondered at by Paurṇamāsī.
यह उदाहरण-श्लोक विदग्ध-माधव (३.४) से लिया गया है। विश्वनाथ इसे इस भाव से पढ़ते हैं कि इस प्रकरण के सञ्चारी-भाव केवल नायिकाओं में ही नहीं, नायक कृष्ण में भी दिखाए जाने चाहिए — यहाँ पूर्वराग में डूबे, ध्यानमग्न कृष्ण को पौर्णमासी दूर से देखकर विस्मित होती है।

chidura iti — the form 'chidura'; karma-kartari-prayogaḥ — is used in the karma-kartā voice (the object put as the agent).
chidura iti — 'छिदुर' पद; karma-kartari-prayogaḥ — कर्म-कर्तरि प्रयोग है
The word 'chidura' is in the karma-kartā construction — the thing that gets cut is spoken of as if it cut itself.
'छिदुर' यह पद कर्म-कर्तरि प्रयोग है।
karma-kartā: a reflexive usage where the grammatical object is expressed as the agent — like 'the rice cooks (itself),' odanaḥ pacyate. The point is that the thing breaks 'of its own accord.' Note that 'chidura' is not among the mūla lines as printed above; Jīva is glossing a reading of Vidagdha-mādhava 3.4 that differs from the text carried here.

That is, it means: the thing is cut of its own accord. This unpacks the karma-kartā Jīva just flagged — it is not that someone cuts it, but that it comes apart by itself.
अर्थात् वह उसके द्वारा स्वयं (अपने-आप) टूटते जाने के रूप में कहा गया है।

'Viśīrṇa' — fallen to pieces — means this: because its display falters, its parts no longer hold in their proper places.

mukha-pakṣe — मुख-पक्ष में; antaḥ-karaṇam — अन्तःकरण; tat — वह; eṣaḥ — यह; santāmyan — सन्तप्त होता हुआ; bhramaraḥ — भ्रमर; yatra — जहाँ; tādṛśam — वैसा ही
Here Jīva flags a second, punning reading — the 'face' reading. On the surface the phrase describes a tormented bee hovering in a lotus; on the face-reading, the lotus is the face and the bee is the restless, grieving mind, so 'that in which the tormented bee hovers' points to the inner mind. Jīva marks the pun and lets both layers stand; he does not collapse them into one.
श्लेष के मुख-पक्ष में — वह अन्तःकरण (मन) है, जिसमें यह सन्तप्त होता हुआ भ्रमर स्थित है — वैसा ही (अर्थ लेना)।

The transient emotions are to be shown not only in the heroines but in the hero, Kṛṣṇa, as well. To make this plain, Rūpa introduces the verse with 'yathā vā.'
जैसे नायिकाओं में, वैसे ही नायक में भी सञ्चारी-भाव दिखाए जाने चाहिए — यह दिखाने के लिए विश्वनाथ 'यथा वा' कहकर कहते हैं।
sañcāri-bhāva and vyabhicāri-bhāva name the same class — the transient, come-and-go emotions that is the subject of this prakaraṇa.
सञ्चारी-भाव और व्यभिचारी-भाव एक ही वर्ग के दो नाम हैं — वे क्षणिक, आते-जाते भाव जो इस प्रकरण के विषय हैं।
