sahacari vṛṣabhānujayā prādurbhāve varatviṣopagate |
sahacariO my friend! — Lalitā calls out to her girlfriend before she boasts vocative; sets the confiding, challenging tone of the whole lineहे सखी! (सम्बोधन — पूरी पंक्ति का विश्वासभरा, गर्वीला स्वर यहीं से बँधता है)
vṛṣabhānujayāwhen the daughter of Vṛṣabhānu — Rādhā — is the one who brings it about; śleṣa: on the surface, the fierce light born of the summer (Vṛṣabha / Taurus) sun instrumental of the agent of the appearing; the name Vṛṣabhānu carries both senses — the cowherd king, and the sun in Taurusवृषभानु की कन्या (राधा) के द्वारा — यह नाम वृषभ राशि के सूर्य को भी सूचित करता है
varatviṣācarrying a matchless radiance — her dazzling beauty; śleṣa: the sun's intense rays instrumental agreeing with vṛṣabhānujā; vara-tviṣ 'excellent radiance' reads as beauty (Rādhā) or blaze (sun)श्रेष्ठ कान्ति के साथ — जो राधा का सौन्दर्य है अथवा सूर्य का तेज
prādurbhāve upagateonce her coming-forth has arrived — the moment she shows herself locative absolute: 'when the appearance has come about'जब प्राकट्य हो चुका, तब (सति-सप्तमी)
sahacari — O my friend; varatviṣā vṛṣabhānujayā prādurbhāve upagate — once the coming-forth, brought about by the radiantly beautiful daughter of Vṛṣabhānu, has arrived.
sahacari — हे सखी; vṛṣabhānujayā — वृषभानु-कन्या (राधा) के द्वारा, अथवा वृषभ राशि के सूर्य के द्वारा; varatviṣā — श्रेष्ठ कान्ति के साथ (राधा का सौन्दर्य / सूर्य का तेज); prādurbhāve upagate — प्राकट्य हो जाने पर।
O my friend! The moment Rādhā, the daughter of Vṛṣabhānu, steps forth with her dazzling beauty... On the surface the same words say: the moment the fierce light of the summer sun breaks out with its blazing rays. This is a śleṣa verse — Rādhā under the sun, and the true meaning under the picture.
हे सखी! श्रेष्ठ कान्ति के साथ वृषभानु-कन्या (राधा) का प्राकट्य हो जाने पर — अथवा वृषभ राशि के तेजस्वी सूर्य का उदय हो जाने पर —
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) quoted from Rūpa's own play Vidagdha-mādhava (7.27), spoken in Lalitā's voice; per Viśvanātha (next segment) she answers 'sāṭopam,' with pride — the verse illustrates garva (pride), a vyabhicāri-bhāva of prakaraṇa 13.
यह एक उदाहरण-पद्य है, जो रूप गोस्वामी के अपने नाटक 'विदग्ध-माधव' (7.27) से लिया गया है और ललिता के मुख से कहा गया है; विश्वनाथ के अनुसार (अगले खण्ड में) वह 'साटोप' अर्थात् गर्व के साथ बोलती है — यह पद्य गर्व को दिखाता है, जो तेरहवें प्रकरण का व्यभिचारी-भाव है।

candrāvalī-śatāny api bhavanti nirdhūta-kāntīni ||
candrāvalī-śatānihundreds of Candrāvalīs — the rival gopī and her like; śleṣa: hundreds of rows of moons nominative plural subject; the name Candrāvalī splits into 'candra-āvalī,' rows of moonsसैकड़ों चन्द्रावलियाँ (कर्ता) — यह नाम 'चन्द्र-आवली', चन्द्रों की पंक्तियाँ, ऐसा भी खुलता है
apieven — as many as hundreds, and still concessive; raises the stakes — not one rival but hundreds, all undoneभी — यहाँ तक कि (एक नहीं, सैकड़ों प्रतिद्वन्द्वियाँ, फिर भी सब निष्प्रभ)
nirdhūta-kāntīnihave their glow shaken clean off — left wholly dimmed predicate adjective agreeing with śatāniजिनकी कान्ति पूर्णतः झड़ गई — ऐसी (शतानि की विशेषण)
bhavantibecome / are leftहो जाती हैं
candrāvalī-śatāni api — even hundreds of Candrāvalīs; nirdhūta-kāntīni bhavanti — are left with their luster shaken off.
candrāvalī-śatāni — सैकड़ों चन्द्रावलियाँ (अथवा चन्द्रों की पंक्तियाँ); api — भी; nirdhūta-kāntīni — कान्ति से रहित; bhavanti — हो जाती हैं।
even hundreds of Candrāvalīs are left with their beauty stripped away. On the surface reading: even hundreds of moons lose their glow before the risen sun. Lalitā's boast: one Rādhā outshines any number of rivals.
तब सैकड़ों चन्द्रावलियाँ भी — मानो चन्द्रों की पंक्तियाँ — अपनी सारी कान्ति खोकर निष्प्रभ हो जाती हैं।
The moon (candra) reading and the rival-gopī (Candrāvalī) reading run together — the śleṣa's headline: the sun outshining moons is the picture; Rādhā outshining Candrāvalī is the point.
यहाँ चन्द्र (चाँद) वाला अर्थ और प्रतिद्वन्द्वी गोपी (चन्द्रावली) वाला अर्थ साथ-साथ चलते हैं — यही श्लेष का मर्म है: चित्र यह है कि सूर्य चन्द्रों को मलिन कर देता है, पर तात्पर्य यह है कि राधा चन्द्रावली को फीका कर देती है।

candra-śreṇī-śatāni api iti ādithen 'even hundreds of rows of moons, and so on' — Candrāvalī read plainly as candra-śreṇī, rows of moons he cites the head of L2 and glosses candrāvalī as candra-śreṇī'चन्द्र-श्रेणी-शतानि अपि' इत्यादि — L2 का आदि-पद उद्धृत कर, चन्द्रावली को चन्द्र-श्रेणी बताते हैं
vṛṣabhānujayā — 'the daughter of Vṛṣabhānu,' i.e. jyaiṣṭha-māsīya-sūryotthayā, the light risen from the Jyeṣṭha-month sun; varatviṣā — with its intense rays; prādurbhāve upagate prāpte sati — once its rising has arrived; candra-śreṇī-śatāny apīty ādi — 'even hundreds of moon-rows,' etc.
vṛṣabhānujayā — वृषभानु-कन्या के द्वारा; jyaiṣṭha-māsīya-sūrya-utthayā — ज्येष्ठ मास के सूर्य से उदित; varatviṣā — श्रेष्ठ कान्ति के साथ; prādurbhāve upagate prāpte sati — प्राकट्य प्राप्त हो जाने पर; candra-śreṇī-śatāni api iti ādi — 'चन्द्र-श्रेणी-शतानि अपि' इत्यादि।
Viśvanātha first takes the surface, sun-picture reading. 'Vṛṣabhānujā' = the light born of the blazing summer sun of the month Jyeṣṭha; 'vara-tviṣā' = with its fierce rays. Once that rising has come about, then 'even hundreds of rows of moons,' and so on — here Candrāvalī is read simply as candra-śreṇī, rows of moons.
'वृषभानु-कन्या के द्वारा' अर्थात् ज्येष्ठ मास के सूर्य से उदित, श्रेष्ठ कान्ति के साथ प्राकट्य प्राप्त हो जाने पर — 'चन्द्र-श्रेणी के सैकड़ों' इत्यादि आगे। यहाँ 'upagata' को 'prāpta' से और 'चन्द्रावली' को 'चन्द्र-श्रेणी' से समझाया गया है।

On the second layer of the śleṣa, 'vṛṣabhānujā' is no longer the sun's daughter but Śrī Rādhā herself, daughter of King Vṛṣabhānu.
दूसरे पक्ष में 'वृषभानु-कन्या' का अर्थ है श्रीराधा।
