vipralabdhā kāntena kāraṇāntarād vañciteti yaugikaṛthaḥ ||
kāntenaat her lover's hands instrumental of agent — 'by the kānta'कान्त (प्रियतम) के द्वारा
kāraṇāntarātbecause some other circumstance intervened ablative of cause; kāraṇa-antara = a cause other [than the lover's own will] — i.e. fateकिसी अन्य कारण से (अर्थात् दैव से, न कि प्रियतम की अपनी इच्छा से)
vañcitāmeans one who has been let down, cheated of the meetingठगी गई (वंचित की गई)
iti— such is closes the paraphrase— इस प्रकार [यह व्याख्या पूरी हुई]
yaugikaṛthaḥthe word's etymological sense yaugika-artha = the meaning got by breaking the word down (vi-pra-√labh, 'to deceive')यह यौगिक अर्थ है (शब्द को तोड़कर — वि-प्र-√लभ, 'ठगना' — निकला अर्थ)
vipralabdhā [= ] kāntena kāraṇāntarāt vañcitā iti — 'vipralabdhā' means one let down by her lover through some other cause; yaugikaṛthaḥ — this is the word's etymological meaning.
'विप्रलब्धा' अर्थात् कान्त के द्वारा किसी अन्य कारण से वंचित की गई — यह [शब्द का] यौगिक अर्थ है
Jīva gives the word's build. Broken down, 'vipralabdhā' means: one let down by her lover. But note — not through his own doing; it is some other cause, fate, that cheated her of the meeting. So the very name marks her as 'the disappointed one.'
'विप्रलब्धा' का यौगिक अर्थ है — जिसे प्रियतम ने किसी और कारण से ठगा हो। यह अर्थ शब्द को टुकड़ों में तोड़ने से निकलता है।

aprāpte nirdhāre jñāte satīti vyākhyeyam ||
aprāptethe verse's 'aprāpte' ('when he has not arrived')'अप्राप्ते' [पद का अभिप्राय]
nirdhāre jñāte satishould be read as: once the certainty [that he will not come] has become known to her locative absolute supplied as the gloss; nirdhāra = the definite ascertainment, jñāte sati = 'when it has become known'जब निर्धार (निश्चित निर्णय) जान लिया जाए, तब — [ऐसे रूप में]
iti vyākhyeyam— this is how it is to be explained vyākhyeyam = 'ought to be construed'— इस प्रकार व्याख्या करनी चाहिए (यही अभिप्राय समझना चाहिए)
aprāpte — the word 'aprāpte'; nirdhāre jñāte sati iti vyākhyeyam — should be explained as 'once the certainty of his not coming has become known.'
'अप्राप्ते' का अर्थ 'जब निश्चित रूप से जान लिया जाए' — ऐसा समझना चाहिए
Viśvanātha sharpens the grammar. Do not read 'aprāpte' as merely 'he hasn't shown up yet.' Read it as a locative absolute: 'once it has become a settled certainty that he will not come.' Her anguish — and so her standing as vipralabdhā — begins the moment that certainty dawns, not the moment he is simply late.
