śaila-indra-uddhṛti-līlayā — by his play of lifting Govardhana; kila — as the story goes; gavāṁ maṇḍale paritrāte — once the whole herd of cows had been rescued.
By the sport of lifting up Govardhana, the king of mountains, the whole herd of cows had been rescued, as the tale goes.
An udāharaṇa of bhaya-hāsyaja — 'humor born from fear' — of the mukha (principal) kind, expressed through speech (vācā): the type defined at kārikā 263 (v186, 'hāsyād bhayena janitaṁ ... bhaya-hāsyajam'). Here a naive cowherd boy's frightened outcry, and Kṛṣṇa's smile at it, is the illustration. The scene is the sequel to the Govardhana-lifting, when Indra comes down to make amends.

There, a cowherd boy caught sight of the thousand-eyed Indra, who had come down wanting to sing Kṛṣṇa's praises.

pāhi māṁsave me! pāhi = imperative 'protect', māṁ = meमेरी रक्षा करो
paśya — look!; ayaṁ rākṣasa-patiḥ — this demon-king; sākṣād — in the flesh; pratyāsīdati — is closing in; māṁ pāhi — save me!
"Look! The demon-king himself is bearing down on us — save me!"
The joke turns on the boy taking Indra's thousand eyes for the many heads or eyes of a rākṣasa: his fear (bhaya) misfires into a comic mistake, the very stuff of bhaya-hāsya.

As the innocent little cowherd boy shrieks this, Kṛṣṇa breaks into a smile — may that smiling Hari protect you all. His smile at the boy's frightened blunder is the humor born of fear.

By his play of lifting up Govardhana, the king of mountains, the whole herd of cows had — so the tale goes — been rescued. Then a naive little cowherd boy caught sight of thousand-eyed Indra, who had come down there wishing to sing Kṛṣṇa's praises, and mistaking those many eyes for a demon's, shrieked out, "Look! This lord of the rākṣasas is bearing down on us in the flesh — save me!" As the innocent child cries out so, Hari breaks into a smile: may that smiling Hari protect you all.

An udāharaṇa cited under the lead-in 'mukhyaṁ vācā, yathā' — illustrating bhaya-hāsyaja (humor born of fear) of the mukha (principal) kind, voiced through speech (vācā), the variety defined at kārikā 263 (v186).
