Rūpa comes to the third variety of narma, the loving banter of the kaiśikī style. It is priyāparādha-nirbheda: the heroine exposing the beloved's offense — reproaching him and holding his fault up to him. Like the two before it, he says, this one too has been laid down by the wise as three-fold (tredhā). And 'likewise' (tathā) means through the very same three channels as the earlier types: by her speech, by her dress, and by her gesture. The udāharaṇas that follow illustrate each in turn, beginning with the exposing by speech.
narma, playful love-charged banter, is the first aṅga of the graceful kaiśikī vṛtti and comes in three varieties: sambhogecchā-prakaṭana, 'revealing the desire for union' (defined at 8.172), anurāga-prakāśa, 'revealing deep love' (8.176), and now priyāparādha-nirbheda, 'exposing the beloved's offense'. Each is itself three-fold by vāc (speech), veṣa (dress), and ceṣṭita (gesture); that is the force of tathā, 'likewise'. The three udāharaṇas begin at 8.180 with the exposing by speech (vācā).
priyāparādha-nirbhedaḥ api budhaiḥ tathā tredhā uktaḥ.
priyāparādha-nirbhedaḥ api budhaiḥ tathā tredhā uktaḥ।
The exposing of the beloved's offense too — the heroine reproaching her lover and holding his fault up to him — has been laid down by the wise as being three-fold in the very same way as the earlier two varieties, that is, through speech, through dress, and through gesture.
Defines the third variety of narma, priyāparādha-nirbheda, declaring it three-fold (by vāc, veṣa, ceṣṭita) like the two before it; the three udāharaṇas follow from 8.180.
