The moon climbs the sky. Its rising is the signal that summons lovers to meet — the moon itself the graceful go-between of the tryst.
चन्द्रमा उदित हो रहा है। यही चन्द्रमा कोमल प्रियतम की वह दूती है, जो अभिसार का संकेत देकर प्रेमियों को मिलन के लिए बुलाती है।

Getting decked out should be their first, careful task. But in their haste it goes all wrong — the ornaments end up in the wrong places.
क्योंकि उनके लिए सबसे पहला काम तो शृंगार करना ही है। परन्तु उतावली में आभूषण उलटे स्थानों पर लग जाते हैं।

aṅganābhiḥ[all this done] by the women instrumental plural — the agents of the whole adornment, agreeing with santāpa-...-locanābhiḥ in L2उन स्त्रियों के द्वारा — यही समस्त शृंगार की कर्त्री हैं, L2 के santāpa-...-locanābhiḥ से इनका अन्वय है
vinyāsa-hāsita-sakhī-janam — the misarrangement making the group of girlfriends laugh; aṅganābhiḥ — [all this done] by the women.

The muddled arrangement sets their girlfriends laughing. So the women's very dress, thrown on in a flurry, betrays their eagerness for union — which is the point the definition makes.

When the moon has climbed the sky — that tender go-between of the lovers, heralding the tryst — the women, their minds and eyes alike swimming with the fever of longing, take up what should be their first and most careful task, the rite of getting decked out. But in their eagerness it turns all topsy-turvy: the ornaments end up in the wrong places, and the muddled arrangement sets their girlfriends laughing.
जब कोमल प्रियतम की दूती-सा चन्द्रमा उदित होता है, तब जिन स्त्रियों के मन और नेत्र प्रेम-सन्ताप से व्याप्त हैं, उनके लिए सबसे पहला और प्रधान काम शृंगार करना ही होता है; किन्तु उस उतावली में आभूषण उलटे स्थानों पर लग जाते हैं, और आभूषणों के इस विपरीत विन्यास से वे अपनी सखियों को हँसा देती हैं।
