Now he takes up the garbhāṅka. The word is just a heading: "Now, the garbhāṅka." The garbhāṅka is an act staged inside another act — a play performed within the play. Having finished the aṅka in the previous kārikā, Rūpa turns to this next kind of act.
अब गर्भाङ्क का प्रकरण आरम्भ होता है। 'अब' शब्द पूर्ववर्ती अङ्क के लक्षण को पूरा करके इस नये शीर्षक की ओर ले जाता है, और 'गर्भाङ्क' पद उस विषय को नाम रूप में रख देता है जिसका लक्षण आगे कहा जाएगा।
garbhāṅka (garbha 'womb, interior' + aṅka 'act'): a nāṭya term for a subordinate act nested inside the main act — a play-within-a-play whose action furthers the outer plot. Kept in IAST as a technical term of dramaturgy.
गर्भाङ्क (गर्भ अर्थात् भीतर या कोख + अङ्क अर्थात् अंक) — नाट्य का एक पारिभाषिक शब्द; मुख्य अङ्क के भीतर घटित होने वाला गौण अङ्क, अर्थात् नाटक के भीतर का नाटक, जिसका व्यापार बाहरी कथानक को आगे बढ़ाता है।

Because the aṅka has just been under discussion, this is the natural moment to treat its inner cousin. So Rūpa says: "the definition of the garbhāṅka will now be stated by me." This is a promise, not yet the definition — he is announcing the topic and marking that it follows on from the aṅka he has just defined. The actual lakṣaṇa comes in the next kārikā.
अङ्क के प्रसंग के कारण गर्भाङ्क का लक्षण अब मेरे द्वारा कहा जाएगा। पूर्व कारिका में अङ्क का लक्षण कहा गया था, वही इस समय गर्भाङ्क के निरूपण का अवसर बना है। 'कहा जाएगा' यह भविष्यत् रूप बताता है कि लक्षण यहाँ नहीं, आगे दिया जाएगा।

अथ garbhāṅkaḥ (गर्भाङ्क का प्रकरण आरम्भ होता है); aṅka-prasaṅgāt (अङ्क के प्रसंग के कारण) garbhāṅka-lakṣaṇam (गर्भाङ्क का लक्षण) mayā (मेरे द्वारा) vakṣyate (कहा जाएगा)।
