vidagdha-mādhave yadvad dvitīyāṅka-mukhe kṛtaḥ |
vidagdha-mādhavethere in the Vidagdha-Mādhava, Rūpa's own play locative — the work in which the sample interlude is foundविदग्ध-माधव नामक नाटक में
yadvatjust as, for instance — correlative adverb, 'in the way that…'; asau in L2 answers it, 'that very one is…'
dvitīya-aṅka-mukheat the opening of the second act locative — the exact spot in the play; -mukha here = the 'face', i.e. the start, of the actदूसरे अंक के मुख में अर्थात् आरम्भ में
kṛtaḥthe viṣkambhaka [interlude] that is staged [there] past participle, masc. sg.; agrees with the unspoken viṣkambhaka carried over from the running definition — this is the subject L2 will nameकिया गया — यह पुल्लिंग रूप पूर्व से चले आ रहे (अनुक्त) विष्कम्भक का विशेषण है
yadvat — just as; vidagdha-mādhave — in the Vidagdha-Mādhava; dvitīya-aṅka-mukhe — at the opening of the second act; kṛtaḥ — the viṣkambhaka staged [there].
Rūpa now points to a real case to fix the definition just given. Take the Vidagdha-Mādhava, his own play. At the very start of its second act a viṣkambhaka is staged — one of the short opening interludes he has been defining. 'Just as here…' — he is about to say what makes this particular interlude count as the mixed type. Note that the verse never repeats the word viṣkambhaka: 'the one staged' (kṛtaḥ) simply carries it over from the preceding kārikās. L2 tells us who performs it and what to call it.
This kārikā supplies the worked example for the śuddha/miśra split of the viṣkambhaka defined just before, in v098 (ref 196): a viṣkambhaka staged at an act's opening by non-principal characters is śuddha ('pure') when middling (madhyama) characters carry it, and miśra ('mixed') when low (nīca) and middling characters share it. The masculine kṛtaḥ, with no noun of its own, shows the running subject is still viṣkambhaka.

mukharā-yuktayā nāndīmukhyāsau miśra-saṁjñakaḥ ||
mukharā-yuktayāwho is joined by Mukharā, [i.e. together with Mukharā] instrumental fem. sg. agreeing with nāndīmukhyā; -yukta = 'accompanied by', adding the second performerमुखरा से युक्त अर्थात् मुखरा के साथ मिलकर (दूसरी पात्री जुड़ जाती है)
nāndīmukhyāperformed by Nāndīmukhī instrumental of agent with kṛtaḥ (L1) — the character who carries the interludeनान्दीमुखी के द्वारा — जो पात्री विष्कम्भक निभाती है (कृतः का कर्ता)
asauthat interlude [staged there] nominative masc. demonstrative, resuming kṛtaḥ from L1 — the subject of the namingवह (विष्कम्भक) — पूर्व पंक्ति के 'कृतः' को दोहराता हुआ, नाम-कथन का विषय
miśra-saṁjñakaḥis the one called miśra, 'mixed' predicate nominative; -saṁjñaka = 'bearing the name', so the label is applied, not merely described'मिश्र' इस नाम वाला — अर्थात् उस पर मिश्र संज्ञा लगायी जाती है
asau — that interlude; nāndīmukhyā mukharā-yuktayā — [staged] by Nāndīmukhī together with Mukharā; miśra-saṁjñakaḥ — is called miśra.
Who carries that opening interlude? Nāndīmukhī, and with her Mukharā — the two together. Because it is shared between two such characters rather than run by one grade alone, it counts as the mixed kind: Rūpa's verdict is that this viṣkambhaka is called miśra, 'mixed'. So the single named instance nails down the definition of v098 — when characters of different grade share the interlude, the result is miśra, not śuddha.
By the rule stated in the preceding kārikā (v098, ref 196), a viṣkambhaka is miśra when low (nīca) and middling (madhyama) characters carry it together; naming two agents, Nāndīmukhī and Mukharā, for this one interlude is exactly what marks it as mixed rather than pure. The verse assigns no grade to either name individually — it is the pairing that makes the type.
yadvat vidagdha-mādhave dvitīya-aṅka-mukhe kṛtaḥ [viṣkambhakaḥ], [tathā] mukharā-yuktayā nāndīmukhyā [kṛtaḥ] asau miśra-saṁjñakaḥ [bhavati].
yadvat विदग्ध-माधवे dvitīya-aṅka-mukhe mukharā-yuktayā nāndīmukhyā kṛtaḥ, asau miśra-saṁjñakaḥ (bhavati)।
Take, for instance, the viṣkambhaka staged at the opening of the second act of the Vidagdha-Mādhava, Rūpa's own play: since it is carried by Nāndīmukhī together with Mukharā, that very interlude is the one called miśra, the 'mixed' type.
An udāharaṇa fixing the definition of v098: a viṣkambhaka shared by characters of different grade is miśra, shown by Nāndīmukhī paired with Mukharā at the start of Vidagdha-Mādhava act two.
