upadiṣṭamgoes by the name upadiṣṭa ('counsel, what is enjoined')उपदेश-रूप में कहा गया, अर्थात् सिखाया गया
tad ucyatethat is what one calls it passive — 'is said [to be]'; correlative tad picks up yad vākyamवही 'उपदिष्ट' कहलाता है (कर्मवाच्य — 'कहा जाता है'; 'तत्' पीछे के 'यत्' का प्रत्यभिज्ञान करता है)
yad vākyam — whatever speech; śāstrānusāri — accords with the śāstra; tad — that; upadiṣṭam — 'upadiṣṭa'; ucyate — is called.
Speech that keeps in line with the śāstra is called upadiṣṭa. That is the whole definition: any utterance in the play that conforms to scriptural teaching earns the name of this ornament, upadiṣṭa — 'counsel'.
upadiṣṭa ('what is enjoined, counsel') is one of the thirty-six bhūṣaṇas — the dramatic 'ornaments' this vibhāga catalogues (vv 141–265). Its mark is simple: the words agree with śāstra. It pairs with the preceding ornament pṛcchā ('the question', kārikā 181), so the two together make question-and-scripturally-sound-answer; the verse from Act 6 (Nārada's speech) quoted right after, nc.8.80, illustrates it.

The utterance that keeps in line with the śāstra — that speech is called upadiṣṭa, 'counsel.'
Lakṣaṇa of the bhūṣaṇa upadiṣṭa ('counsel'), one of the thirty-six dramatic ornaments of this vibhāga: its sole defining mark is that the words accord with scriptural teaching; it pairs with the preceding ornament pṛcchā ('the question') and is illustrated by the Act 6 verse quoted next (nc.8.80).
