L1definition
vicārasyānyathābhāvo vijñeyas tad-viparyayaḥ ||
vicārasyaof vicāra — the aṅga just defined, the describing of many means for one single goal genitive: whose reversal is now being namedविचार का — जिसका उलटा रूप अब बताया जा रहा है
anyathā-bhāvaḥits being the other way round — the state in which that pattern is turned over nominative, the subject being defined: anyathā 'otherwise' + bhāva 'condition'अन्यथा हो जाना, अर्थात् उलटी अवस्था में आ जाना — यही परिभाषित किया जाने वाला विषय है
vijñeyaḥis to be recognized as — the naming verb of the definition gerundive (vi-jñā): 'one should know it as'जान लेना चाहिए, इस रूप में समझना चाहिए
tad-viparyayaḥtad-viparyaya, 'the reverse of that' — the name assigned to this aṅga tad = vicāra, viparyaya = its inversion; predicate to which vijñeyaḥ pointsवह 'तत्-विपर्यय' है — 'तत्' अर्थात् विचार, और 'विपर्यय' अर्थात् उसका उलट जाना
vicārasya anyathā-bhāvaḥ — vicāra's being turned the other way round; tad-viparyayaḥ — is tad-viparyaya, 'its opposite'; vijñeyaḥ — so it is to be known.
vicārasya — विचार का; anyathā-bhāvaḥ — उलटी अवस्था में हो जाना; vijñeyaḥ — जानना चाहिए; tad-viparyayaḥ — यही तत्-विपर्यय है (तत् = विचार, विपर्यय = उसका उलटना)।
Recall vicāra: it described many means aimed at one single goal. Now simply turn that around. When the pattern of vicāra is reversed, that is to be recognized as tad-viparyaya — literally 'the reverse of that.' This aṅga has no fresh definition of its own; it borrows vicāra's and inverts it, so its opposite is one means set toward many goals.
विचार का जो उलटा रूप है, उसे 'तत्-विपर्यय' जानना चाहिए। यहाँ 'तत्' शब्द विचार को दर्शाता है और 'विपर्यय' का अर्थ है उसका उलट जाना। इस प्रकार यह अंग पूरी तरह विरोध के द्वारा ही परिभाषित होता है।
This is the lakṣaṇa (defining kārikā) of tad-viparyaya, one of the aṅgas treated in this vibhāga; the topic-marker heads the subsection with its very name. It is defined entirely by contrast: vicāra was fixed in the preceding kārikā as eka-sādhyasya bahu-sādhana-varṇanam, 'describing many means for one goal' (see v053), and tad-viparyaya is that turned over — many goals reached by one means.
vicārasya anyathā-bhāvaḥ tad-viparyayaḥ vijñeyaḥ
vicārasya anyathā-bhāvaḥ tad-viparyayaḥ (iti) vijñeyaḥ।
The turning-around of vicāra is to be recognized as tad-viparyaya, 'the reverse of that': where vicāra was the describing of many means aimed at one single goal, its inversion — one means directed toward many goals — is what bears this name.
विचार का जो अन्यथा-भाव है, अर्थात् उसका उलट जाना, उसे 'तत्-विपर्यय' जानना चाहिए — यहाँ 'तत्' शब्द विचार को दर्शाता है और 'विपर्यय' उसके उलट जाने को; इस प्रकार यह अंग विचार के ठीक विरोध के द्वारा ही परिभाषित होता है।
The lakṣaṇa-kārikā defining the aṅga tad-viparyaya, framed wholly by contrast: it takes over vicāra's definition (v053) and inverts it.
यह कारिका पूर्व-लक्षित 'विचार' के प्रतिपक्ष 'तत्-विपर्यय' अंग का लक्षण विरोध के द्वारा देती है।
