mandā sāndhya-payoda-sodara-ruciḥ saivābhimanyos tanur
mandālanguid — the body slack and slowकोमल — यह 'तनु' (शरीर) स्त्रीलिंग है, इसलिए 'मन्दा' अर्थात् मृदु, कोमल
sāndhya-payoda-sodara-ruciḥits luster a twin of the twilight cloud — dusky and dark sodara 'born of one womb' = a close kin, a twin, i.e. closely resemblingजिसकी कान्ति साँझ के बादल की सहोदरा (एक ही गर्भ से जनमी, अर्थात् जुड़वाँ बहन) जैसी है — साँझ के मेघ-सी आभा वाली
sā evathat very same [body] eva stamps an exact identity — the refrain 'the very same' recurs through each pāda (tad eva, saiva, tad eva) and is undercut only in L4वही, निश्चय ही वही — 'एव' पद ठीक-ठीक वही पहचान पर मुहर लगाता है
abhimanyoḥ tanuḥ — is Abhimanyu's body; mandā — languid; sāndhya-payoda-sodara-ruciḥ — dusky as a twilight cloud; sā eva — that very same one
Look — the body is languid, its color dusky as an evening cloud. It is Abhimanyu's very body, exactly his.
An udāharaṇa of māyā, defined in the preceding kārikā (140) as kaitava-kalpanā, 'the contrivance of a deceit' — the dramatic device of a staged false appearance. Here a figure has taken on Abhimanyu's exact form — body, face, gait, dress — to deceive; yet an indescribable stamp betrays his real splendor beneath. Quoted from the fourth act (caturthe 4.33), where Vṛndā speaks, marveling.
