vyāpāraḥan act, some deed a character throws himself into — the thing being defined nominative subject of bhavetवह चेष्टा, वह कार्य (भवेत् का कर्ता)
sāhasamcounts as sāhasa (a reckless, daring deed) — this is the term the line names predicate nominative equated with vyāpāraḥसाहस कहलाता है (वह विधेय जो व्यापार के समान रखा गया है)
bhavetwould be, is reckoned to be optative giving the definition's 'is to be taken as'होता है, ऐसा समझना चाहिए — यही इस लक्षण का 'माना जाता है'
sva-jīvita-nirākāṅkṣaḥ — heedless of one's own life; vyāpāraḥ — an act; sāhasam — sāhasa (a reckless deed); bhavet — would be.
An act a character plunges into with no thought for his own life — that is what counts as sāhasa, a bold or reckless deed. What makes it sāhasa is precisely the disregard of the risk to oneself.
sāhasa is here defined as a technical nāṭya element — a daring act carried out in reckless disregard of one's own safety. It stands in the section's catalogue of dramatic elements alongside dhī (resolve), krodha (anger), māyā (deceit), and bhaya (fear). The defining mark is svajīvita-nirākāṅkṣa: the deed is 'reckless' not by its outward violence but because the doer sets aside all care for his own life; that heedlessness is the whole of what the definition requires.
