The verse — decoded
L1definition
rasa-bhāvānubodhena prayojanam avekṣya ca |
rasa-bhāvānubodhenabecause it awakens rasa and bhāva — the first way an aṅga earns its place instrumental of means; dvandva rasa-bhāva ('the settled devotional mood' + 'the feeling still rising'), with anubodha 'a rousing into awareness'रस (परिपक्व, आस्वादित भक्ति-भाव) और भाव (अभी उठता हुआ आरम्भिक भाव) — इन दोनों के अनुबोध अर्थात् प्रेक्षकों के चित्त में जगा देने के द्वारा
prayojanamthe purpose — the aim the aṅga is meant to serve in the play accusative, object of avekṣyaप्रयोजन को, अर्थात् जिस उद्देश्य की सिद्धि अभीष्ट है उसको (यह अवेक्ष्य का कर्म है)
avekṣya caand by keeping that purpose in view — the second way gerund; ca coordinates this with rasa-bhāvānubodhena, so the two together are the conditionsऔर भली-भाँति देखकर, विचार कर के — 'च' इसे रस-भाव के अनुबोध के साथ जोड़ता है, अतः दोनों मिलकर एक ही शर्त बनते हैं
rasa-bhāvānubodhena — by [its] awakening of rasa and bhāva; prayojanam avekṣya ca — and by keeping the purpose in view.
Now the rule for using the aṅgas well. A limb earns its place two ways. First, when it awakens rasa and bhāva — the settled devotional mood, and the feeling still rising toward it. Second, when it is set with an eye to the purpose it is meant to serve in the play.
rasa is the fully developed, savoured devotional mood; bhāva is the feeling in its earlier, not-yet-matured state. Naming both fixes the range: a limb that quickens even the incipient bhāva, and not only the finished rasa, still counts. 'anubodha' is the aṅga's job of rousing these into the audience's awareness.

sāphalyaṁ kāryam aṅgānām ity ācāryāḥ pracakṣate ||
sāphalyaṁthe fruitfulness — the making of the aṅga to bear fruit neuter nominative, subject of the gerundive kāryamसार्थकता, सफलता — अर्थात् अंगों का सफल एवं फलदायी होना (यह कार्यम् इस विधेय का कर्ता है)

aṅgānāmof the aṅgas — the sandhy-aṅgas, the limbs of the dramatic junctures genitive, dependent on sāphalyaṁअंगों का — यह षष्ठी सार्थकता (साफल्यम्) पर आश्रित है
ity ācāryāḥso — the ācāryas, the authoritative teachers of dramaturgy; iti closes the quoted rule nominative subject of pracakṣate; iti marks that the preceding is their received teaching, not Rūpa's own coinageऐसा आचार्यगण — 'इति' यह सूचित करता है कि पूर्वोक्त बात उनका परम्परा-प्राप्त उपदेश है, रूप गोस्वामी की अपनी नई गढ़ी हुई बात नहीं
aṅgānām sāphalyaṁ kāryam — the fruitfulness of the aṅgas is to be brought about [in just these two ways]; iti ācāryāḥ pracakṣate — so the ācāryas declare.
On just these two counts the fruitfulness of the aṅgas is to be secured — the sandhy-aṅgas, the limbs of the junctures. This is the rule, and Rūpa reports it as the teaching of the ācāryas, not as his own invention.
sāphalya, 'fruitfulness', is the positive principle this verse lays down; its opposite, vaiphalya ('fruitlessness'), is exactly what the very next kārikā (ref 123 / v125) takes up, where the Daśarūpaka author and others are said to hold some aṅgas dispensable — 'not agreed by all.' So this kārikā states the rule that the following debate then tests.
rasa-bhāva-anubodhena prayojanam avekṣya ca aṅgānām sāphalyaṁ kāryam iti ācāryāḥ pracakṣate.
rasa-bhāvānubodhena prayojanaṁ ca avekṣya aṅgānāṁ sāphalyaṁ kāryam iti ācāryāḥ pracakṣate।
By its awakening of rasa and bhāva — the settled devotional mood and the feeling still rising toward it — and by keeping in view the purpose it is meant to serve, the fruitfulness of the aṅgas is to be secured: so the ācāryas declare.
A definition-kārikā: it lays down the two-fold test — awakening rasa/bhāva and serving the purpose — by which the sandhy-aṅgas earn their sāphalya, reported as received teaching (iti ācāryāḥ).
