mānādy-āptiś ca bhāṣaṇam ||
mānādy-āptiḥwhen a character wins honour and the like — respect, esteem, favour, reward māna-ādi-āpti; 'āpti' = the gaining of it; nominative — the thing being definedसम्मान आदि की प्राप्ति — यही जिसका लक्षण किया जा रहा है (प्रथमा)
caand — adds this limb to the one just defined (kṛti), continuing the run of sandhy-aṅga definitionsऔर
bhāṣaṇamis [the limb] called bhāṣaṇa — names the sandhy-aṅga being definedभाषण नामक अंग है
mānādy-āptiḥ — the winning of honour and the like; ca — and [this]; bhāṣaṇam — is the sandhy-aṅga called bhāṣaṇa.
When a character comes into honour — respect, esteem, favour, reward, and such — that is the sandhy-aṅga called bhāṣaṇa. The 'and' ties it to the limb just laid down before it, so the list of the junctures' limbs runs on. Here it is the lakṣaṇa that the illustrations set out in the lead-in are meant to show at work.
bhāṣaṇa is a sandhy-aṅga — one of the aṅgas (limbs) that make up a dramatic sandhi (juncture); the technical term is kept in IAST. This defining line is itself a quotation (origin 'quoted', source ref 9.8) — Rūpa adduces the settled lakṣaṇa from a dramaturgic authority, then, in the lead-in, illustrates it from the plays (Rādhikā's and Candrāvalī's speeches).
māna-ādi-āptiḥ ca bhāṣaṇam [iti ucyate]
mānādy-āptiḥ ca (yat tat) bhāṣaṇam (iti kathyate)।
When a character comes into honour and the like — respect, esteem, favour, reward — that gaining is the sandhy-aṅga called bhāṣaṇa; the 'and' ties it to the limb defined just before, so the running list of the junctures' limbs continues.
A lakṣaṇa-line defining the sandhy-aṅga bhāṣaṇa — itself quoted (origin 'quoted', source ref 9.8) — which the lead-in speeches of Rādhikā and Candrāvalī are adduced to illustrate at work.
