aparājita-māninaṁ haṭhāc
aparājita-māninaṁyou who fancy yourself unbeaten accusative describing tvām (L2); -mānin- = 'one who prides himself on being ___'जो अपने को अपराजित (कभी न हारनेवाला) मानता है, उस तुझको
haṭhātby sheer force ablative used adverbially, 'by force'; goes with abhibhūya (L2); sandhi haṭhāc before c-बलपूर्वक, हठ से (अभिभूय के साथ जुड़ता है)
aparājita-māninaṁ — you who fancy yourself unbeaten; haṭhāt — by sheer force
aparājita-māninaṁ — जो अपने को अपराजित मानता है, उस (तुझको); haṭhāt — बलपूर्वक, हठ से (अभिभूय के साथ)
This is the sample verse for vīra-bhakti-rasa: a devotee-hero calls out to Kṛṣṇa. He addresses him as the one who thinks himself unconquerable, and vows to take him down by sheer force.
जो अपने को कभी न हारनेवाला मानता है, ऐसे तुझको बलपूर्वक दबाकर।
An udāharaṇa of vīra-bhakti-rasa (the mood of heroism), laharī 3, illustrating Kṛṣṇa as the viṣaya-ālambana — the object toward whom the hero's valor is shown (per the lead-in tatra kṛṣṇo, yathā). The speaker is a hero-devotee challenging Kṛṣṇa to a fight.
यह वीर-भक्ति-रस का उदाहरण है, तीसरी लहरी में। यहाँ कृष्ण विषय-आलम्बन हैं — वह पात्र जिसके प्रति वीर अपना पराक्रम दिखाता है ('तत्र कृष्णो, यथा' इस अवतरण के अनुसार)। बोलनेवाला एक वीर-भक्त है, जो कृष्ण को युद्ध के लिए ललकार रहा है।

abhibhūyaonce I have overpowered gerund, 'having overcome'; the means of the gladdening in L3पराभूत करके, दबाकर (अगले चरण की प्रसन्नता का साधन)
mādhavaO Mādhavaहे माधव
caṭulaṁ — restless one; tvām — you; abhibhūya — once I have overpowered; mādhava — O Mādhava
caṭulaṁ — चंचल, फुर्तीले (तुझको); tvām — तुझको; abhibhūya — पराभूत करके, दबाकर; mādhava — हे माधव
He piles on a second taunt — you nimble, quick-dodging one — and names his aim: once I have overpowered you, O Mādhava. The gerund abhibhūya hangs on the main verb still to come in L3.
हे माधव, फुर्तीले तुझको पराभूत करके।

Here comes the main verb: I would gladden — right now — my whole band of friends. Beating Kṛṣṇa is the gift the hero would give his comrades.
तो मैं अभी अपने मित्र-समूह को प्रसन्न कर दूँ।

yadi na — यदि नहीं; tvaṁ — तू; samarāt — युद्ध से; parāñcasi — मुँह मोड़ता है, पीठ दिखाता है
The whole boast rests on one 'if': provided you do not turn tail and flee the battle. Put together, the hero says — O Mādhava, if you don't run from the fight, then right now I'll delight my friends by forcing down you who think yourself unbeaten.
यदि तू युद्ध से मुँह न मोड़े (भाग न जाए), तो।

yadi na tvam iti |
yadi na tvamthe words 'if you do not' — i.e. the last line pratīka: Jīva quotes the opening words of L4 to mark which line he takes up'यदि न त्वम्' — जीव चौथे चरण के आरम्भिक शब्द उद्धृत करते हैं, यह बताने के लिए कि वे किस चरण को उठा रहे हैं
itithese words [he now explains]इस पद को लेकर
yadi na tvam iti — the words 'if you do not', [taken up for comment]
yadi na tvam — 'यदि न त्वम्' (जो चौथे चरण का प्रतीक है); iti — इस पद को लेकर
Jīva picks up the last line by its opening words, 'yadi na tvam' — 'if you do not' — to gloss it.
'यदि न त्वम्' — इस चौथे चरण को जीव व्याख्या के लिए उठाते हैं।

yadi samaraṁ tyaktuṁ chalena samarāt parāṅmukho na bhavasīty arthaḥ |
yadiifयदि
samaraṁ tyaktuṁin order to quit the battle infinitive of purpose (tyaktum), stating the motive Jīva reads into the fleeingयुद्ध को छोड़ने के लिए (यही वह मंशा है जिसे जीव भागने में पढ़ते हैं)
chalenaon some pretext instrumental of means, 'by a trick'छल से, बहाने के द्वारा
samarātfrom the battle ablative of separationयुद्ध से (अपादान)
parāṅmukho na bhavasiyou do not become one whose face is turned away this is Jīva unpacking the verse's parāñcasi as parāṅmukho bhavasiविमुख नहीं होता, पीठ नहीं दिखाता — जीव श्लोक के पराञ्चसि को यों खोलते हैं
ity arthaḥthat is the meaningऐसा अर्थ है
yadi — if; samaraṁ tyaktuṁ — in order to quit the battle; chalena — on some pretext; samarāt — from the battle; parāṅmukho na bhavasi — you do not turn your face away; ity arthaḥ — that is the meaning
yadi — यदि; samaraṁ tyaktuṁ — युद्ध को छोड़ने के लिए; chalena — छल से; samarāt — युद्ध से; parāṅmukho na bhavasi — विमुख नहीं होता; ity arthaḥ — ऐसा अर्थ है
Jīva restates the line: parāñcasi means 'become one whose face is turned away.' He spells out the motive left implicit — the fleeing would be a dodge to get out of the fight. So the sense is: if you do not, on some pretext for quitting the battle, turn your face away from it.
अर्थात् यदि तू युद्ध को छोड़ने के लिए छल से युद्ध से विमुख न हो — यही अभिप्राय है।

"sa yadi tvaṁ samaraṁ samañcasi" iti vā pāṭhaḥ ||
sa yadi tvaṁ samaraṁ samañcasithe variant text: 'that [being so], if you close in on the battle' here samañcasi (sam-√añc, 'move toward, join') takes samaram in the accusative — replacing the verse's samarāt parāñcasi ('turn away from the battle')'स यदि त्वं समरं समञ्चसि' — यहाँ समञ्चसि (सम्-अञ्च्, 'पास जाना, भिड़ना') समरम् को कर्म रूप में लेता है, और श्लोक के 'समरात् पराञ्चसि' की जगह लेता है
iti vā pāṭhaḥor [this] is the reading vā flags a suspended alternative reading (pāṭhāntara), left standing beside the first'इति वा पाठः' — 'अथवा ऐसा पाठ भी है'; 'वा' एक पाठान्तर को सूचित करता है, जो पहले पाठ के साथ ही खड़ा रहता है
sa yadi tvaṁ samaraṁ samañcasi — that being so, if you close in on the battle; iti vā pāṭhaḥ — or [this] is the reading
sa yadi tvaṁ samaraṁ samañcasi — 'स यदि त्वं समरं समञ्चसि' (समञ्चसि समरम् को कर्म रूप में लेकर); iti vā pāṭhaḥ — 'अथवा ऐसा पाठ है' (एक पाठान्तर)
Jīva notes a variant reading of the line: 'sa yadi tvaṁ samaraṁ samañcasi' — where the verb is samañcasi, 'you advance into / join' the battle (samara in the accusative), instead of 'samarāt parāñcasi,' 'you turn away from the battle.' He leaves both readings standing.
'स यदि त्वं समरं समञ्चसि' — ऐसा भी एक पाठ है।
pāṭha = a manuscript reading (variant text). This variant swaps the case and the verb: from 'samarāt parāñcasi' (ablative + 'turn away') to 'samaraṁ samañcasi' (accusative + 'move toward'). The two are left side by side, not resolved.
पाठ का अर्थ है हस्तलेख का एक वाचन (पाठान्तर)। यह पाठान्तर विभक्ति और क्रिया दोनों बदल देता है — 'समरात् पराञ्चसि' (अपादान + 'मुँह मोड़ना') से 'समरं समञ्चसि' (कर्म + 'पास जाना')। दोनों को साथ-साथ रखा गया है, किसी एक का निर्णय नहीं किया गया।

"yadi samaraṁ tyaktuṁ chalena samarāt samañcasi" iti vā pāṭhaḥ ||
yadi samaraṁ tyaktuṁ chalena samarāt samañcasiViśvanātha's variant: 'if, on a pretext for quitting the battle, you move off from the battle' here samañcasi is construed with samarāt (ablative) and the tyaktuṁ-chalena phrase, reading it as moving away — distinct from Jīva's variant, which read samañcasi with samaram (accusative)'यदि समरं त्यक्तुं छलेन समरात् समञ्चसि' — यहाँ समञ्चसि समरात् (अपादान) तथा 'त्यक्तुं-छलेन' पद के साथ जोड़ा गया है, और इसे 'हट जाना' के अर्थ में पढ़ा गया है — जीव के पाठान्तर से भिन्न, जहाँ समञ्चसि समरम् (कर्म) के साथ पढ़ा गया था
iti vā pāṭhaḥor [this] is the reading vā flags a suspended alternative reading, left standing'इति वा पाठः' — 'अथवा ऐसा पाठ भी है'; 'वा' एक पाठान्तर को सूचित करता है, जो साथ ही खड़ा रहता है
yadi samaraṁ tyaktuṁ chalena samarāt samañcasi — if, on a pretext for quitting the battle, you move off from the battle; iti vā pāṭhaḥ — or [this] is the reading
yadi samaraṁ tyaktuṁ chalena samarāt samañcasi — 'यदि समरं त्यक्तुं छलेन समरात् समञ्चसि' (समञ्चसि समरात् अपादान के साथ); iti vā pāṭhaḥ — 'अथवा ऐसा पाठ है' (एक पाठान्तर)
Viśvanātha records his own variant reading: 'yadi samaraṁ tyaktuṁ chalena samarāt samañcasi.' It carries over Jīva's phrasing — 'on a pretext for quitting the battle' — but ends with samañcasi taken with the ablative samarāt, so the sense stays 'move off from the battle.' He leaves it standing as an alternative.
'यदि समरं त्यक्तुं छलेन समरात् समञ्चसि' — ऐसा भी एक पाठ है।
This variant differs from Jīva's (c1-jiva.s3): Jīva read samañcasi with samaram in the accusative ('close in on the battle'); Viśvanātha reads samañcasi with samarāt in the ablative and adds the 'pretext for quitting' clause. The two commentators' readings are not harmonized.
यह पाठान्तर जीव के पाठान्तर से भिन्न है — जीव ने समञ्चसि को समरम् (कर्म) के साथ पढ़ा ('युद्ध की ओर बढ़ना'), जबकि विश्वनाथ समञ्चसि को समरात् (अपादान) के साथ पढ़ते हैं और 'छोड़ने के बहाने' वाला पद भी जोड़ते हैं। दोनों आचार्यों के वाचन में समन्वय नहीं किया गया।
