Kṛṣṇa's own pūrva-rāga toward the girls of Vraja is a different matter. The venerable sage has already described it, and many times over, in the chapter that opens 'jayati te’dhikaṁ janmanā', in verses like 'śarad-udāśaye…' — and he lets the gopīs say it in their own words. That case is settled. Taking that as read, the author mentions it only once here. What he now displays is the same pūrva-rāga in Rukmiṇī's case — introduced by 'yathā vā', 'or again, as in…'.
pūrva-rāga is the love that grows between two who have heard of each other but have not yet met; Jīva's point is that Kṛṣṇa feels it too, not only the heroine. Both quoted tags are pratīkas — opening words standing for a whole passage — and both come from the Gopī-gīta, Bhāgavata 10.31: the chapter's first line and its second verse. 'The venerable sage' is the Bhāgavatam's own narrator-author.
