eṣāṁ vyabhicāri-bhāvānāṁ madhye kasyacid bhāvasya kaścana bhāvo vibhāva uddīpano bhavet, anubhāvaḥ kāryaṁ bhavet |
eṣāṁ vyabhicāri-bhāvānāṁ madhyeamong these vyabhicāri-bhāvas (naming the verse's 'sañcāri' by its other name) Viśvanātha reads Rūpa's sañcāri as vyabhicāri — the two are synonyms for the transient feelingsइन व्यभिचारी-भावों के बीच में — विश्वनाथ रूप गोस्वामी के 'सञ्चारी' को 'व्यभिचारी' पढ़ते हैं; दोनों क्षणिक भावों के पर्याय हैं
kasyacid bhāvasyaof some one feeling genitive — glossing the verse's kasyacit, the feeling that is servedकिसी एक भाव का — षष्ठी, श्लोक के 'कस्यचित्' की व्याख्या, जिसकी सेवा की जाती है
kaścana bhāvosome other feeling nominative — glossing the verse's kaścana, the feeling that does the servingकोई एक भाव (कर्ता) — श्लोक के 'कश्चन' की व्याख्या, जो सेवा करता है
vibhāva uddīpano bhavetcan become the vibhāva — that is, its uddīpana, its stimulus that kindles itविभाव अर्थात् उद्दीपक बन जाए
anubhāvaḥ kāryaṁ bhavetand can become the anubhāva — that is, its kārya, the effect it producesअथवा अनुभाव अर्थात् कार्य बन जाए
eṣāṁ vyabhicāri-bhāvānāṁ madhye — among these transient feelings; kasyacid bhāvasya — of some one feeling; kaścana bhāvaḥ — some other feeling; vibhāvaḥ uddīpanaḥ bhavet — can become the vibhāva, its kindling stimulus; anubhāvaḥ kāryaṁ bhavet — and can become the anubhāva, its effect.
Viśvanātha spells out the rule. Among these transient feelings, some one feeling can become, for another, its vibhāva — and he pins down which vibhāva: the uddīpana, the stimulus that stirs it up. And it can become its anubhāva — again pinned down: the kārya, the effect that follows from it. So the same feeling plays trigger for one, and outcome for another.

tasyā īrṣyāyā anubhāvatā uktā ||
tasyā īrṣyāyāof that jealousy (īrṣyā), the one already discussed genitive — tasyā points back to a jealousy treated earlier in the laharīउस ईर्ष्या का — षष्ठी, 'तस्याः' इस लहरी में पहले वर्णित ईर्ष्या की ओर संकेत करता है
anubhāvatā uktāits functioning as an anubhāva has already been stated uktā — 'was said', pointing to an earlier passage where īrṣyā served as another feeling's anubhāvaअनुभाव-रूपता कही गई है — 'उक्ता' अर्थात् पहले के प्रसंग की ओर संकेत, जहाँ ईर्ष्या किसी अन्य भाव के अनुभाव के रूप में आई थी
tasyāḥ īrṣyāyāḥ — of that jealousy; anubhāvatā — its status as an anubhāva; uktā — has been stated.
As his instance, Viśvanātha reminds us: for that jealousy (īrṣyā) — the one handled earlier — we already stated that it functions as an anubhāva. So the mutual rule is not new; it was shown in the case of jealousy serving as another feeling's outward effect.
An instance of the just-glossed rule of 2.4.196 that a transient feeling can serve as another's anubhāva: Viśvanātha cross-refers to the earlier treatment of īrṣyā (jealousy) rather than composing a fresh illustrative verse.
