mahārti-viprayogerṣyā-sad-vivekādi-kalpitam |
mahārti-viprayoga-īrṣyā-sad-viveka-ādi-kalpitambrought about by great distress, by separation, by jealousy, by weighing right and wrong, and the like instrumental sense folded in: the list names the causes that produce it; kalpitam = 'produced, brought on'भारी पीड़ा, वियोग, ईर्ष्या, सद्-विवेक आदि के द्वारा उत्पन्न — क्योंकि ये ही कारण इसे जन्म देते हैं (कल्पित = उत्पन्न, लाया हुआ)
mahārti-viprayoga-īrṣyā-sad-viveka-ādi-kalpitam — [the self-condemnation] brought about by great distress, separation, jealousy, weighing right and wrong, and so on
This begins the lakṣaṇa of nirveda. What triggers it is listed first: great distress, being separated from the loved one, jealousy, and 'sad-viveka' — turning over in one's mind what was right and what was wrong. Nirveda is what these produce.
The lakṣaṇa (definition) verse of nirveda, 'self-disgust / despondency', the first of the vyabhicāri (saṁcāri) bhāvas enumerated in the fourth wave (2.4); the lead-in names it: 'tatra (1) nirvedaḥ'.
L2definition
svāvamānanam evātra nirveda iti kathyate |
sva-avamānanam evathe running-down of oneself — that alone eva restricts: nirveda is self-condemnation and nothing else; sva- = 'of one's own self'अपने ही आपका तिरस्कार ही ('एव' शब्द से सीमित — निर्वेद यही है और कुछ नहीं; स्व = अपने आपका)
atrahere, in this treatmentयहाँ (इस प्रसंग में)
nirvedaḥ iti kathyateis what gets called nirveda'निर्वेद' कहा जाता है
atra — here; sva-avamānanam eva — self-condemnation, precisely that; nirvedaḥ iti kathyate — is called nirveda
Self-condemnation, and just that, is here named nirveda. Not distaste for the world in general, but a person's turning against himself.
The compound of L1 (mahārti…-kalpitam) qualifies this sva-avamānanam: self-condemnation as produced by those causes.

And here are the signs by which you can see it: worry, tears, the face losing its color, a sunken humbled look, heavy sighing, and more of the same.
These are the anubhāvas of nirveda — its outward, readable effects — as against the causes listed in L1.

Jīva pins down the one obscure word in the list, 'sad-viveka'. He says: take it as grief itself — grief over having done what one ought not to have done, and over having failed to do what one ought to have done. So it is not cool moral discrimination; it is the pain of realizing one got it wrong.

mahārty-ādibhiḥ kalpitaṁ svasya avamānanam eva nirvedaḥ |
mahārti-ādibhiḥ kalpitambrought about by great distress and the rest instrumental of cause, expanding L1's kalpitam: 'produced by' those triggersभारी पीड़ा आदि कारणों के द्वारा उत्पन्न (L1 के कल्पितम् का विस्तार — उन्हीं कारणों से जन्मा)
svasya avamānanam evathe running-down of one's own self — that precisely svasya (genitive) = 'of oneself'; eva restricts, as in the mūlaअपने ही आपका तिरस्कार ही (स्वस्य षष्ठी = अपना; 'एव' मूल की भाँति सीमित करता है)
nirvedaḥis [what is meant by] nirvedaनिर्वेद है
mahārti-ādibhiḥ kalpitam — produced by great distress etc.; svasya avamānanam eva — self-condemnation, just that; nirvedaḥ — is nirveda
Viśvanātha restates the definition in plain prose, resolving the verse's compound: nirveda is self-condemnation — one's own self, run down — as produced by great distress and the other causes. He puts svasya ('of oneself') where the verse had the terse sva-, making clear it is the self that is the object of the contempt.

atra — here; cintā-ādayaḥ — anxiety and so on; nirveda-janyāḥ — are born of nirveda
Viśvanātha then fixes the logic of the second half: anxiety, tears, and the rest are produced by nirveda. That is, they stand downstream of it as its effects — the anubhāvas — not as more items in the list of causes from the first line.

Viśvanātha closes with the same gloss of 'sad-viveka' as grief: grief over having done the forbidden thing and over having left the required thing undone. The two included commentators, Jīva and Viśvanātha, agree word-for-word on this point.
