L1definition
rati-dvaya-vinābhūtair bhāvair manasa ākramāt |
rati-dvaya-vinābhūtaiḥwhich stand apart from the two ratis (rati-dvaya = the two kinds of love) modifies bhāvaiḥ; vinā-bhūta = 'having come to be without' the two ratisजो दोनों रतियों से रहित होकर उत्पन्न हुए — ऐसे भावों के (आगे 'भावैः' का विशेषण)
bhāvaiḥby such emotions [as their cause] instrumental of means: the non-rati feelings that trigger the sāttvika signsउन (रति से भिन्न) भावों के द्वारा — जो सात्त्विक चिह्नों को जगाते हैं
manasaḥ ākramātbecause they seize the mind by force ablative of cause; manasaḥ = objective genitive, 'a forcible overpowering OF the mind'मन के बलपूर्वक अभिभूत हो जाने के कारण ('मनसः' यहाँ कर्म-सम्बन्धी षष्ठी — मन का आक्रमण)
manasaḥ ākramāt — because they seize the mind by force; rati-dvaya-vinābhūtaiḥ bhāvaiḥ — through emotions that stand apart from the two ratis
There are sāttvika signs that are set off not by love itself but by some other feeling that overpowers the mind by force — a feeling unconnected to either of the two ratis.
Defines the category digdha ('smeared, tinged'), one of the classes of sāttvika-bhāva in this laharī. The 'two ratis' are named by Viśvanātha in his gloss below.
L2definition
jane jāta-ratau digdhās te ced raty-anugāminaḥ ||
jane jāta-ratauin a person in whom love (rati) has already arisen locative of the substrate: only in one who already has rati does the category applyजिस व्यक्ति में रति पहले से उत्पन्न हो चुकी हो, उसी में (यह भेद लागू होता है) — आधार की सप्तमी
digdhāḥ tethose [signs] are called digdha, 'smeared / tinged'वे (चिह्न) 'दिग्ध' कहलाते हैं
cedon the condition that — ced 'if' sets the deciding test that followsयदि — आगे कहा जाने वाला निर्णायक परीक्षण प्रस्तुत करता है
raty-anugāminaḥthey end up following after rati (are rati-anugāmī)यदि वे बाद में रति के अनुसार चलने वाले हों
jane jāta-ratau — in a person in whom love has arisen; te — those signs [are] digdhāḥ — 'smeared'; ced — if; raty-anugāminaḥ — they follow after rati
In a person who already has love, such signs are called digdha ('smeared') — but only if, in the end, they fall in behind that love rather than staying apart from it.
So the test for digdha is two-part: the sign is set off by a non-rati emotion, yet afterwards it conforms to the person's rati.

pūtanām itithe word 'pūtanām' — pratīka: Jīva picks up the verse-word to comment on it'पूतनाम्' इत्यादि से — जीव श्लोक के इस पद को उठाकर उस पर टीका करते हैं (प्रतीक)
svāpnikaṁ caritaṁ lakṣyatepoints to an episode seen in a dreamयहाँ स्वप्न में घटी घटना का लक्षण किया जा रहा है
niśānte tasyāḥ loṭhana-aśruteḥbecause her (Pūtanā's) rolling at night's end is nowhere reported [in scripture] ablative of reason; a-śruti = 'it is not heard of', i.e. unattested, so it cannot be a waking eventक्योंकि रात्रि के अन्त में उसके (पूतना के) लोटने की बात कहीं सुनी नहीं गई — इस कारण ('अश्रुति' = अप्रामाणिक होना, इसलिए यह जाग्रत् की घटना नहीं हो सकती)
pūtanām iti — the word 'pūtanām'; svāpnikaṁ caritaṁ lakṣyate — points to a dream-episode; niśānte tasyāḥ loṭhana-aśruteḥ — because her rolling at night's end is nowhere reported
Jīva: the mention of Pūtanā signals a dream, not a waking event. Scripture nowhere records Pūtanā's body rolling about at the end of the night — so this could only have been something Yaśodā dreamt.
Jīva takes niśānta in its plain sense, 'night's end', and builds his dream-argument on that reading.

nidrā-mohenathrough the fog of sleep instrumental of causeनिद्रा के मोह के कारण
putrasya prathamaṁ tatra astitva-asphūrteḥbecause at first it did not dawn on her that her son was right there ablative of reason; a-sphūrti = 'a failure to flash into awareness'क्योंकि पहले-पहल उसे वहाँ पुत्र के होने का बोध ही स्फुरित नहीं हुआ — इस कारण ('अस्फूर्ति' = चित्त में झलक न पड़ना)
sva-viṣayaṁ eva bhayaṁ jātamthe fear that arose was aimed at herself alone eva restricts: fear FOR herself, not [yet] for the childकेवल अपने ही विषय में भय उत्पन्न हुआ ('एव' सीमित करता है: अपने लिए भय, [अभी] पुत्र के लिए नहीं)
ata eva — and for just this reason; nidrā-mohena — through the fog of sleep; putrasya prathamaṁ tatra astitva-asphūrteḥ — because at first it did not dawn on her that her son was there; sva-viṣayaṁ eva bhayaṁ jātam — the fear that arose was aimed at herself alone
Jīva: because sleep's fog kept her, at first, from even registering that her son was there, the fear that rose in her was fear for her own self — not, at that first moment, fear about Kṛṣṇa. That is exactly why the sign starts out unconnected to rati.
This is how Jīva grounds the digdha classification: the trembling is triggered by a self-directed fear (not born of rati), and only afterwards, in the search for the son, does it turn toward rati.

Viśvanātha unpacks verse 9 word by word: the 'two ratis' are the primary (mukhya) and the secondary (gauṇa) rati; the 'emotions apart from them' are the sāttvika signs like trembling; those are what is called digdha; and 'rati-following' simply means they come along behind rati.
It is Viśvanātha who identifies the two ratis as mukhya (primary) and gauṇa (secondary). He also takes bhāva here as the sāttvika sign itself (kampa etc.), not the separate triggering emotion.

Viśvanātha reads the example onto the definition: she saw Pūtanā in a dream — here he takes niśānta to mean 'inside the house'; the trembling arose with no connection to either rati; then, in the words 'she searches for her son', that same trembling turned into rati-following. So it is digdha.
Viśvanātha takes niśānta as 'the dwelling / house' (gṛha-madhya), the second sense of the word — where Jīva above took it as 'night's end'. The verse exploits the śleṣa; the two commentators lean on the two senses and are left unharmonized.
