iha — here; netuḥ — of the hero; kaiśoram — adolescence; svarūpam eva — is his very own nature; uktam — has been said to be; yadyapi — although.
Here is the puzzle. Kṛṣṇa's kaiśora, his fresh-youth age, has already been called his very own nature (svarūpa) — not a separate feature added onto him. So how could it also count as an uddīpana, an excitant that stirs up rasa? That would seem to demand something distinct from him. The 'although' sets the tension; L2 resolves it.
This verse settles how kaiśora can be both the hero's svarūpa and an uddīpana-vibhāva (an excitant of the devotional mood), building on the treatment of the guṇas at 2.1.305.

The answer: because Kṛṣṇa appears in a range of forms — childhood, boyhood, fresh youth — kaiśora stands out against them as one distinct phase. That very showing-forth of it, occasion by occasion, is enough to make it stir the mood. So even though kaiśora is his own nature, it is still accepted as an uddīpana.

Jīva reminds us of the earlier ground. Back at the verse beginning 'guṇāḥ svarūpam' (2.1.305), Rūpa showed that Kṛṣṇa's qualities work as uddīpanas — but only by granting a distinction between a quality and the one who bears it. That distinction is the hinge the present verse will tighten.

Now Rūpa singles out kaiśora as the test case that stands for the whole class. Using it, he settles that these svarūpa-qualities are excitants in their own right — not by any borrowed distinction. That is what he nails down with the words 'netuḥ...'.
upalakṣaṇa: kaiśora is named not because the point is only about kaiśora, but because it flags the whole set of svarūpa-qualities — the way 'the house with the crow on it' points you to a house (the crow is only a locator, not part of what the house is), as against 'a blue lotus' where blue belongs to the thing. Here kaiśora is the locator for all such qualities-as-excitants.

Jīva unpacks the verse. Grant it: since kaiśora is a trait of Kṛṣṇa's own nature, it is indeed his svarūpa. Still, the ages come and go by occasion — childhood, then boyhood, then fresh youth, each appearing in its turn. But Kṛṣṇa himself, the one who bears them, is present through them all without a break. Against that steady backdrop, kaiśora shows up as one distinct phase — and that is exactly why it too works as an excitant.

So Jīva states the rule behind it. The ālambana — Kṛṣṇa himself, on whom the mood rests — is there all the time, without interruption. He is the constant.

The excitants, on the other hand, come only now and then. That is the difference: the ālambana is constant, the uddīpanas are occasional — and it is precisely kaiśora's occasional showing-forth that lets it serve as an excitant.

Do not harmonize the two readings: Jīva writes ālambanaḥ (masculine — the ālambana person), Viśvanātha ālambanam (neuter — the ālambana factor). The sense is close, but the grammar differs and is left standing.
