Siddhānta gives a running word-gloss of the whole verse. O friend, if you take delight — that is, eager curiosity — in the company of your relatives, worldly folk absorbed in wife and children, then, from here, near the Keśī-ghāṭa on the bank of the Yamunā: look at the body of Hari called Govinda, the form of Nanda's son. It is smiling; bent in three places — at neck, waist and knees; of sidelong, wide glance, because the eyes look out crookedly and broadly; its lower lip, itself a tender new shoot, is placed on the flute; and it is radiant with a peacock feather. 'Do not look' — the words really mean: behold him!
kiśalaya / nava-pallava: a fresh sprout or new leaf-bud, used here for the soft redness of the lip. candraka: the 'eye' of a peacock's tail-feather, i.e. the peacock plume in Kṛṣṇa's hair.
